It’s not a done deal
Atlanta’s mayor indicated that “several perspective possible owners had stepped up.” Of course he was referring to the NBA Hawks and the desire to purchase the majority shares owned by Bruce Levenson. Former player and current television analyst Chris Webber and the Webber Group have been identified as one of the potential buyers. As the headline indicates nothing is final however it would be interesting if Webber joined Michael Jordan. Webber would become the second former player to become majority owner of an NBA franchise.

Greed
No argument from me the NBA regular season is far too long, so are the MLB season and the NFL. As for the NBA we are hearing discussions about reducing the number of games. A reduction would benefit owners, players and fans. Hit in the wallet would be those whose income is directly affected by working the games. The ticket staff, concession personnel, the clean-up workforce and others I may have overlooked. Owners and fans may be able to sustain their lifestyle with a little less as for the others?

“I don’t get no respect”
Rodney Dangerfield‘s “I don’t get no respect” will be trotted out by me from time to time I deem appropriate, this is one of those times. As for sports respect depends on the portion of the nation. This morning on the Dan Patrick radio program a question was posed; “Who would you rather have in the World Series the Royals or the Yankees?” The conscience was the Yankees would draw the greater number of television viewers no argument from me. I thought for a moment on the NBA championships. The Spurs have been consistent winners for well over a decade; do the national media give them the respect they deserve probably not?

One writer pointed out; “They (Spurs) have never won back to back championships.” Is that a true basis for giving any team its just due? The Knicks and more recently the Nets have over the years received more media coverage than the Spurs. Considering the fact neither has won anything got any ideas? Should we suppose this might occur due to locality of the Knicks and Nets? The Celtics (17) and Lakers (16) have won almost half of the NBA’s Championships. Based on this we could understand why they might be a draw if nothing else for historical reasons. As for the Knicks and Nets receiving more coverage than the Spurs it’s location (New York), it certainly hasn‘t been based on court production. .

Is this possible?
Would you believe Michigan State and Kentucky were both losers regarding a potential prospect, in addition they lost out to Marquette. Both were attempting to enlist the services of Henry Ellenson, he’s a 6-10 230 pound power forward. Ellenson verbally commits to Marquette in early October and he‘s a Rivals 5-star prospect and the number 17 prospect in the Class of 2015.
