Basketball from a fans perspective
Published Monday, Wednesday and Friday-May through September

Roll over
The first game loss by the Raptor well it was OT…. Thursday was a different matter, the Raptors despite my belief are not ready.  They have allowed the Cavs to come into their gym and beat the crap out of them.  Is the series over, not yet however I hold little belief the Raptors are ready to become NBA champions?  Regular season kings, playoff series well you can choose the sentence that best applies.  In Boston the Sixers surrendered to the Celtics 108-103 and face an 0-2 deficit

The first
Someone always must be first although we might question this as a first.  The Suns will announce Igor Kokoskov as their new head coach.  Kokoskov from Serbia becomes the first Euro head coach in the NBA.  Technically the honor of the first goes to David Blatt, although American he began his coaching career in Israel.  Kokoskov didn’t just arrive on the scene he’s been an assistant with 6 NBA teams since the 2000-2001 season, Kokoskov was an assistant to Quin Snyder with the Jazz.  It should be noted the Suns were one of the teams he worked as an assistant coach (2008-13).

As this report was being completed ESPN reported David Fizdale would be named coach of the Knicks.  Fizdales’ name had been mentioned in connection with several openings, you know his story.  After leading the Grizzlies to the playoffs in his first year 2016-17 ownership dumped him the following year after the team got off to a 7-12 start.  Fizdale worked for 3 NBA teams as an assistant coach prior to assuming head coaching duties with the Grizzlies.  The Hawks remain in search mode for a head coach, my guess is a hire most likely will be in place by the time the June 21 draft rolls around.

Mock draft sites
Jontay Porter of Mizzou is listed in most mock draft sites as a middle to late round draft pick.  That’s the good news, although not always 100% accurate the clear majority are relatively accurate.  The down side, what might occur for Jontay if he slides to the second round or might not be drafted at all?  This scenario has played out if you’ve watched the draft over the years, he can’t return to school if he’s made commitments i.e. hired an agent.

That question and others cannot be answered until the draft however there is a method of determining his status or any others NBA candidate.  The Draft Combine and individual workouts provide a prospect a glimpse of their standing.  Finally, as for Jontay and others they have until June 11th to withdraw their names provided they have hired no agent.  That is the case for Jontay as this is written, he’s hired no agent to date.  Just in case Mizzou will manage to find space for him on the roster.

Duke basketball
I’m sure I mentioned this but just in case, did you realize Duke has 4 of the Top 10 Rivals prospects headed for Durham in the fall?  The prospect rank by Rivals is in front of their name.

#1 R.J. Barrett 6-7 small forward
#2 Cameron Reddish 6-7 shooting guard
#3 Zion Williamson 6-6 forward
#8 Tre Jones 6-2-point guard number

There is no guarantee all four make a huge splash on Duke basketball, but it does prove one fact a 71-year old coach can still recruit kids to his program.
