A basketball fans perspective
Wemby had 7 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in the first half. That was hardly a take charge game as many expected him to have. For the Knicks it was KAT with 17 points and 7 rebounds and Jalen Brunson with 10 points but only 27% shooting from the floor, Mikal Bridges contributed 11 points. Every time it seemed in the 3rd quarter the Spurs made a run at the Knicks they had an answer, it would be an offensive rebound and score or forcing a TO by the Spurs. The result was the visitors would retain the lead, most critical at a point was missed free throws, with the score 90-83 in favor of the Knicks we counted 8 missed free throws by the Spurs. After trailing by 14 points in the 4th quarter the Spurs came roaring back, missed shots by the Knicks and timely shots and forced TO’s by the Spurs had them back in the game under the three minute mark or so in the 4th and then it occurred. A missed Knick shot and an errant Wemby pass with 12 seconds remaining to Stephon Castle’s back and a foul on the recovery. With seconds remaining this placed Brunson on the free throw line where he missed the second of two free throws. The first Wemby shot was a miss but an offensive rebound allowed a second shot. The second shot was a miss too as the horn sounded, final Knicks 105 Spurs 104.
The Spurs once again had five players in double figures led by Wemby who came alive in the 4th quarter. He totaled 29 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. The winning Knicks also had 5 players score in double figures, they were led by KAT with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Brunson and Bridges each scored 20 points. The teams now head for Game 3 on Monday at Madison Square Garden in New York. The Spurs outshot the Knicks from the floor 47% to 42% but were outrebounded 44-42, the Knicks also had 11 steals in the game.
