Basketball from a fans perspective

“Don’t be that guy!”
This is intended to become a regular feature of Words eye view.  It’s proposed to ask the question; “What was he (she) thinking. “  The recent Jazz-Rockets game and Salt Lake City is the location.  Rockets guard James Harden is standing at the free-throw line preparing to shot and a Jazz fan decides to shine a laser in Harden’s eyes.  Unsure if it was Harden or the referee who spotted the laser however the culprit was caught. The guilty party is banned from all NBA arenas for 1-year.

Bits n Pieces
I have been one of the biggest critics of those gruesome medium blue colored Thunder jerseys.  I’ve seen high school teams with snappier looking uniforms.  What I’m seeing tonight must be alternate jerseys; they are orange with navy blue stripe on both sides of the shorts and tops.  They have a navy blue OKC on the front of the jersey along with blue numerals.  I pronounce them in the category of “I like.”

Oklahoma lost the classic match last Monday to Kansas; Buddy Hield did all he could to aid the Oklahoma cause in the triple-overtime loss.  The 6-4 guard scored 46 points on 13 for 23 from the floor (56%), 12-14 from the free-throw line 8 rebounds and 7 assists.  Currently Hield is listed as the 22nd pick on www.nbadraftexpress.com and number 8 on www.nbadraft.net.  This is no forecast of NBA success however Hield will definitely be drafted.

Do you remember the night of the draft a television camera caught a young Knick fan taking a selfie of him?  He was crying when the commissioner announced the Knicks selection of Kristapas Porzingis.  Recently an instagram photo surfaced of him and his parents, in the photo he’s in a Kristapas Porzigis jersey.  Can we guess the youngster may have changed his mind?  In a related story Porzingis claimed doctors advised him he’s not finished growing.  Currently listed at 7-3 he could grow another 3 or 4 inches.  That is real scary for the NBA.

Earl Watson was a journeyman player in the NBA however he’s a local guy.  Watson from Kansas City Kansas graduated from Washington High School and then played his college ball at UCLA.  In 2001 Watson was drafted by the Sonics in the second round of the NBA Draft.  The shakeup in the coaching staff of the Suns saw Watson becoming an assistant coach, a shout out to a local guy.

They are best
I just checked the RPI (Real Time Ranking) of the college basketball conferences.  The Pac-12 ranks first in strength of schedule however the Big-12 is number one in the nation.  The Big-12 may have been the strongest in 2014-15 however the issue (for me at least) little if any success in the NCAA Tournament. In the past Kansas has been the only conference member to regularly advance deep into the tournament.  The question is it fair to use the NCAA Tournament as a gauge for a conference?
