Basketball from a fan’s perspective

College Basketball Hall of Fame
In addition to the basketball games an enshrinement ceremony is held in the same manner as the Naismith Hall of Fame.  The College Basketball Hall of Fame is in Kansas City (MO) next door to the Sprint Center Arena.  We have long believed several players, coaches had very successful careers despite little sometimes no NBA connection.  Those enshrined in 2019 are:

Athletes
Indiana Calbert Cheaney
Duke Shane Battier
Purdue Terry Dischinger
Providence Ernie DiGregorio
UNLV Larry Johnson
Stanford Todd Lichti
Coaches
Homer Drew
Lute Olson
Rick Majerus

Have you read
Two interesting things about Mavs forward Luka Doncic, at the top of the list we continue to hear ‘He’s not very athletic.’  Check out these highlights and I will pose the question, is it necessary for Doncic to be athletic?  That’s interesting thing number one, as for number two the talk is, he’s in the running for NBA MVP.  That would be quite an accomplishment for a second-year player, in 1969 Bullets center West Unseld was Rookie of the Year and MVP.

As this is written for the numbers Doncic is averaging nearly 30 points a game while pulling down 10 rebounds and dishing out 9.7 assists.  How about this for a hot yet unproven story?  The Kings drafted one place in front of the Mavs and could have chosen Donic, why not?  Vlade Divac Kings vice president of basketball operations and general manager was acquainted with Doncic's father and evidently there was an issue between the two.  This is not to say Marvin Bagley wasn't a good choice it's just the fact the Kings could have easily selected Doncic if not for Divac.

Characters
We’ve discussed characters in sports, a player or coach who marched to their own beat.  They could be outlandish but usually not in the manner of a bully.  I came across him on social media, his name Derrick Chievous. Chievous played for Mizzou at the time the conference only contained eight schools.  He was a Queens New York guy who somehow found his way to the Midwest and Columbia Missouri.  The character, once he sustained a cut during a game which required a band aid.
For reasons unknown the cut healed but Chievous continue to wear a band aid, later the band aid became his trademark.  Chievous would arrive on the court with the band aid displayed someplace on his body where it was visible to the crowd.  He picked up the nickname “The Band-Aid Man”, Chievous could do more than simply apply band aids to his body he could play basketball and well.
When he left after four years the 6-foot 7-inch Chievous scored at nearly 20 ppg and 8 rebounds a game, he shot nearly 80% from the free-throw line.  Chievous scored 2,580 points making him the school’s All-Time leading scorer.  In 1996 the school inducted him into its Hall of Fame, 2012 would see him elected to Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.  In 2019 his jersey number 3 was retired by the school in a half-time ceremony, not bad for a Queens New York guy, right?  Chievous was drafted by the NBA Rockets but spent much of his professional career playing in Europe.  Presently Chievous works for a company with disabled adults and the Special Olympics.
Theme music
Music is a vital part of a program that applies to the NBA too.  We’ve covered in the past the television movement of the league from broadcast into cable, in each instance a network change requires a new theme tune.  These are not in order of time period they were used.  The USA Network telecast the NBA from 1979-80 through 1983-84 however no opening/closing theme could be located.  As for the others enjoy.
