Basketball
from a fan’s perspective
Guilty!
The name Michael Avenatti first came to our attention in the
political world. A few years later the attorney
was charged with an attempt to extort money from Nike. Those with a legal background can provide a
more detailed report. “He’d (Avenatti)
publicize misdeeds and pummel the value of the company’s stock unless he was paid
up to $25 million to conduct an internal probe.”
Naturally he’ll appeal the judgement, but it would appear he
might have a tough time escaping some degree of incarceration and disbarment. According to experts Aventatti could receive
up to 42 years in prison based on all accounts.
We don’t know for sure if he had blackmail on Nike, this we do know the
multi-million-dollar corporation likely has several outstanding attorneys at
the ready. If this were a maw and paw business
Avenatti possibly could have gotten away with extortion…not Nike.
Antonov An-225
This Russian transport is reported to have the largest
wingspan of any current aircraft. In the
NBA Anthony Davis of the Lakers just might have the longest wingspan of any
active player. Giannis Antetokounmpo stands
6 foot 11 an inch taller than Davis however the Laker Big Man has a 7-foot 6-inch
wingspan compared to Giannis at 7 foot 3.
Kevin Durant stands 6-foot 10 but has a 7-foot 5-inch wingspan.
I believed AD was a talent at Kentucky however in the NBA
there were few opportunities to witness his play. The Pelicans being the Pelicans did not
afford me or the nation for that matter to see him play. As a member of the Lakers that’s been a far
different story. We’ve witnessed court
length passes by LeBron and on occasion Rondo, I’ve said to myself “There is no
way he catches that pass” which he usually corrects my observation. In addition to his wingspan to borrow a
baseball term he’s got “soft hands”.
That statement simply implies the player can catch almost anything
tossed to him.
Quit beggin’ Doc
“Clippers say refs’ decision cost them a chance to win in OT”
the ESPN.com headline reads. It should
read woulda, shoulda, couda and the complainer is none other than Clippers
coach Doc Rivers. As Charles Barkley
might say “I guarantee it” if there is a close game and his Clippers lose, he
will moan and complain about the tough loss game officials “caused his team to
suffer.”
Is it just him, I doubt it Lakers coach Frank Vogel received
a tech the other evening? Truth is that Raptors
coach Nick Nurse leads NBA coaches in that department. We are unsure if it’s a Los Angeles thing or
just Rivers, but it always seems he’s moaning about a loss, give it rest. Your Clippers are in 3rd place in
the playoff picture. A number in the
media expect your team to contend for the NBA championship.
Biggest upside
The State of Texas contains three NBA teams Spurs, Rockets
and Mavs. The team with the biggest
upside should not surprise it’s the Mavs.
The Spurs are at the point re-tooling or a rebuild must begin in earnest. The Rockets are in first place in the Southwest
Division but only one and ½ games ahead of the Mavs. We must also consider key members of the
Rockets are all age 30+. As for their
north state neighbor Dallas that’s a different story.
Luka Doncic will turn 21 in a few days and is already an NBA
All Star, the ceiling on his game is about 40,000 feet up. Kristaps Porzingis acquired in trade is 24-years
old and is recovering from injury, he’s returning to the form he exhibited
while a member of the Knicks. Both led
the way in the Mavs 130 to 111-point win over the Kings. Porzingis was 27 points 13 rebounds plus 5
assists and 3 blocked shots, Doncic scored 33 points along with 12 rebounds and
8 assists. The future looks so bright Mavs
fan are singing; “The Future’s So bright, I Gotta Wear Shades.”
