BASKETBALL FROM A FANS PERSPECTIVE

By the time you read this
The Knicks-Wizards game will have been concluded several hours earlier than most NBA games.  The teams will face one another in the 02 Arena in London, an even more interesting fact.  The 19,000 seat arena tickets were all sold out in the first hour they were available, are the Brits anxious to see NBA basketball live?  The 2:00 p.m. East Coast start time equates to 7:00 p.m. London time.  At present only London and Paris have adequate facilities according to the league office.  It might be awhile before we witness games scheduled in other Euro locations.
Wild rumor
This account is strictly in the category of rumor, there is no method to verify the report Kristaps Porzingis will be shut down for the season.  We can be sure Knick fans want to see the unicorn back on the court, but this possible move if factual makes sense.  Will his return make the Knicks significantly better, it’s possible but nothing close to a playoff spot or even .500 basketball?  Remember I’m the guy complaining about teams tanking so on the surface this move might appear to be just that a team tanking?  The Knicks are guaranteed to finish anywhere from 1-5 in the lottery anyway.  Winning an additional 10 games wouldn’t prove beneficial.
New point guard?
News reports indicate the Mavs are attempting to move Dennis Smith Jr.  The former North Carolina State point is only in his second year, but we can point a finger.  It’s all Luka Doncic’s fault, the 6 foot 7 handles the ball and distributes it in the manner of a point guard.  Reports indicate separately there are no issues, but Smith has suffered with Doncic on the floor.  We can check the Lakers and discover a similar issue, LeBron dominates the basketball.  Although the Laker won-loss record might not reflect a positive Ball’s gained additional freedom with LeBron sidelined.  In the State of Texas, the relationship between Smith and Doncic is reported to be good however ball control is the chief issue.
The coach
This Mizzou fan has beaten up former coach Kim Anderson on more than one occasion.  To be fair maybe he was just the wrong guy at the wrong place and wrong time.  Anderson was a hurry up hire, see Frank Haith had bolted for the Tulsa job.  Anderson played at Mizzou under Norm Stewart and after a brief period in the NBA returned to Columbia.  He became an assistant to Stewart.  When the long-time coach was forced out the door politics impacted the coaching hire.  A benefactor wanted anyone other than Anderson based on his close connection to Stewart.  Anderson was hired as the head coach at the University of Central Missouri (Div. II) and was proven quite successful.
In 12-years at the helm his UCM teams won over 270 games plus an NCAA championship in 2014.  The move from Warrensburg Missouri to Columbia is less than 100 miles, the move between coaching Div. I and Div. II basketball is a couple of thousand miles.  Somehow Anderson was never able to recruit enough athletes and the results showed on the court.  He was fired and replaced by Cuonzo Martin, at this point Pittsburg State University a Div. II school reached out and hired Anderson last year.  His first season Anderson’s without any of his recruits the team managed to finish with a 17-13 record, in year two as this is written the team has a 10-3 record.  Is there a difference between coaching Div. I and Div. II basketball, maybe not but it sure would appear there is.
