Basketball from a fan’s perspective

Walking wounded
The Raptors won Game three 123-109 over the Warriors, they accomplished the feat in hostile Oracle Arena.  I had no opportunity to see the game so unfortunately, I cannot add much to what you witnessed on Wednesday.  It appears despite Steph Curry’s 47 points he received little help except for Draymon Green, Game four is scheduled for Friday in Oakland.  Sidebar on Wednesday’s game continues below.  Thursday morning ESPN posted video of a fan who appeared to shove Raptors guard Kyle Lowry when he attempted to bat a ball inbounds.
Early Thursday afternoon the culprit was identified as Mark James a minority investor in the Warriors.  The NBA and Warriors announced he will not be allowed to attend games or any activities for the next year.  James is also being fined $500,000 for his actions during the game.  My statement is the same doesn’t matter if you are a celebrity (Drake) or an owner (Stevens) bad behavior cannot and should not be tolerated by the NBA.  I don’t believe the NBA can fine Drake but they sure can banned him from Raptor games if he continues his sideline antics.

You believe him?
Yesterday we discussed Paul Pierce and the “Wheelchair Game," he now reveals years later it was a bathroom emergency rather than an injury.  That was the “injury” that caused two teammates to carry him off the floor to a waiting wheelchair.  When you got to go you got to go, I do have a question was it necessary for an Academy Award performance?
He’s changed his mind
Kenyon Martin Jr. apparently has changed his mind, junior’s dad played in college before beginning his NBA career.  Much earlier he’d committed to Jerry Stackhouse and Vanderbilt however there is a shift, the son intends to pursue a pro career immediately.  Was this change brought about by R.J. Hampton’s decision to play overseas?
Certainly, no loser
The NBA at the gate at least is a winner, there are a few who refuse to believe this, they reject the evidence right in front of them.  Verification you say, question can you remember the last time an NBA team was on the market and two or three potential buyers were not standing in line ready to write a check? NBA owners have tasted success in private industry, you think they would risk investing their money in a losing venture.
For a variety of reasons baseball and football franchises are valued higher but that fails to take into consideration other facets which impact price.  The only instance an NBA franchise was on the market more than a few months involved an estate issue.  An owner died and the team was placed in a semi-probate status.  The Pistons are an example of this, long-time owner Bill Davidson died in 2009.  It was 2011 before Tom Gores purchased the Pistons and associated properties, this delay in a sale had nothing to do with Gores finances.
I’m going back on my promise
Sometimes promises are broken even to yourself.  That’s what I did and I’m about to inform you why.  Later you will read an account I make the claim there is no reason to focus on free agency.  I said I wasn’t going to discuss pending free agency until it begins.  Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports forced me to change my tune with his Anthony Davis proposal.  He’s eliminated all the contenders for Davis except the Lakers.  He claims the Lakers could acquire him in a trade and his proposal would go along these lines.
The Pelicans draft Zion Williamson, they have Jrue Holiday who would join Lonzo Ball in the backcourt and Brandon Ingram at the three.  The Pelicans also receive the Lakers 2019 number four 1st round pick.  I know what you’re thinking the Lakers would have no point guard, technically that might be somewhat correct but consider this.  They could re-sign Rajon Rondo who experienced an effective year.  In addition, there is always LeBron James who certainly is adequate at distributing the basketball.  This could work in my view, thanks Colin.
