Basketball
from a fan’s perspective
Bad Blood
Several might be more familiar with the story than me. I remember Kevin Garnett left the Wolves
under less than pleasant circumstances.
After all this time plus retirement we might have figured all was well. Well that’s not quite the case, Bad Blood still
exists between KG and Wolves owner Glen Taylor.
With KG’s selection to the Naismith Hall of Fame the Celtics have
indicated they will retire his jersey.
At this point the Nets have made no announcement, as for “don’t
bother.” That statement applies to the
Wolves who drafted KG and the franchise he spent the bulk of his NBA
career. We don’t know all the details however
a feud that existed at the time KG left the Wolves still lingers. If the Wolves decide to retire his jersey it
will be on them, don’t expect KG to be present.
On the front line
If few of you recognize the name TJ Soyoye that’s okay. Soyoye is making a bigger impact at this
point in his and other’s lives than he ever did at Mizzou. Soyoye originally from Nigeria play two
seasons for the Tigers in the early 2000’s, despite his 6-foot 9-inch frame he
played little and had average scoring numbers.
Now days Dr. TJ Soyoye spends time working varying shifts in the
emergency room of Piedmont Columbus Regional Northside. The hospital he works is in Columbus GA about
90 miles south of Atlanta. Dr. Soyoye is
responsible for treating emergency room patients who have covid-19. As we can see his impact on the basketball
court doesn’t compare with his impact in the emergency room. Standing 6-9 Soyoye might be among the
tallest physicians in the nation.
Speaking of Mizzou
As part of Mizzou Nation, I’m eager with anticipation, eager
without setting my hopes too high. There
is a significant number of grad transfers with Mizzou on their list of
schools. Only one of the players with
Mizzou in mind will not be eligible in the 2020-21 season. Hopefully the Tigers will not be a
“bridesmaid” and one of these prospects decides Mizzou will be a good fit. No requirement to name names that will be
done once a decision is reached.
The date remains
The NFL draft will be held later this month, the original
date remains. Reports indicate it will
be a virtual draft. June 25 the NBA will
conduct its draft at the Barclays Center Brooklyn. At this point there is a question if the
location is valid however due to a month and a half lag time this scourge on
the land will have been lifted. Whether
there are individual workouts remains a question. As for the season itself the subject remains
in a holding pattern, the commissioner indicates it won’t be dealt with seriously
until May.
It’s what I do
The college basketball season ended without a champion being
crowned, it’s possible this might be the NBA as well. One might ask why you continue to write about
basketball, it’s simple “It’s what I do.”
As this is being written SportsCenter is discussing PGA Golf, there’s no
golf being played anywhere. NFL Live
is a featured program on ESPN, there’s no NFL being played anywhere. We should be in the early portion of the
baseball season however there’s no baseball being played anywhere.
I hope you understand my intent here, there certainly is no
NBA basketball being played however neither are any other major sports. Covid-19 has impacted the sports world in a
manner never witnessed but consider this little jewel. If everything was pre-covid-19 NFL Live would
still be on the ESPN schedule in April. This
issue’s been a topic of discussion in the past sports season’s overlapped and
have so for a few years. As for me I
write about basketball 365 because “It’s what I do.”
