Basketball from a fan’s perspective

It’s not college, he’s headed for a pro career
Isaiah Todd 6-10 power forward was verbally committed to Michigan.  Notice the sentence read was.  Todd’s mother announced her son changed his mind and decided in favor of a pro career.  As this is written it’s unclear if it’s Europe, Australia or the G-League for Todd.  Stay tune for his decision later this summer.

History made
The Gatorade Player of the Year has been awarded every year since 1986 to the top high school player in the nation.  The names of the past read like a who’s who of basketball.  The list includes the names of Alonzo Mourning, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Bradley Beal, they represent just a few of the names who went on to outstanding college and NBA careers apart from LeBron.

James, Greg Oden and Brandon Knight won the award as juniors and repeated in their senior year.  Whenever top high school basketball players are mentioned Emoni Bates is the first name that rolls off our lips.  We’ve been told all season Bates would be NBA ready by the time his high school class graduated in 2022.  He’s been named 2020 Gatorade Player of the Year; he’s managed to achieve a feat many of the past greats never accomplished.

Monday morning blues
Mizzou colors are not blue however it certainly was Monday.  Mizzou lost two prospects, one could have chosen Mizzou the other, well that’s a different story.  Justin Turner had Mizzou on his radar along with his present school Bowling Green, he decided in favor of returning to Bowling Green.  As for Josh Christopher that was a different matter.  The five-star prospect had a relative on the Mizzou staff, but the general belief Michigan would be the ultimate destination.  That thought process turned out to be incorrect Christopher would choose Arizona State over Michigan and Mizzou.

Really
Is this true, a Bleacher Report story involving Anthony Davis?  The account claims the Knicks refused to part ways with Mitchell Robinson to acquire Davis.  On the Knicks depth chart Robinson is listed as the reserve center, the author claims the team of Steve Mills and Scott Perry refused to part ways with Robinson.  You might remember the Lakers had Robinson in for a workout prior to the 2018 draft.

After playing no basketball and his game being extremely raw the Lakers were reported to be considering him.  We didn’t believe he’d be a first-round draft pick but thought he would be chosen by the Lakers later.  The Knicks beat the Lakers with their second-round pick ahead of the Lakers.  After a short period, it appears Robinson is still highly thought of by Knick management.  The question with the change at the top i.e. hiring Leon Rose will this situation remain the same?  We have no idea; this is a developing story.

Yao versus Shaq
In 2003 the Big Man battle was still an essential part of NBA basketball.  Although the prospect of two behemoths going head to head excited many in the NBA community.  The Rockets drafting of Yao Ming could prove quite interesting.  Yao Ming all 7 foot 6 inches and 310 pounds was matched against Shaquille O’Neal 7 foot 1, 324 pounds.  We didn’t realize it at the time, but we’d be eyewitness to the first meeting of these two future Hall of Fame players.

All week the entire NBA was ripe with anticipation with the first meeting of these two giants, the veteran O’Neal and the rookie Yao.  January 17, 2003 at the Compaq Center former home of the Rockets the teams faced one another.  Yao would block the first two shot attempts by Shaq, he would win the battle scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds.  Yao’s Rocket team would win the war although the Big Man only scored 10 points along with 10 rebounds for the game.  The Rockets were winners 108-104, check out the link below.
