Great difficulty
For me it’s been very difficult, I quietly applauded the
election of Kobe Bryant to the Naismith Hall of Fame over the weekend. Watching video of him in action has been difficult
for me, perhaps its timing it’s only been a few months since his death, his
daughter and several others. Channel surfing on
Sunday afternoon I stopped on our ABC affiliate as it was telecasting the 2010
NBA championship.
Although I almost changed channels I remained with the game,
it was the middle of the 4th quarter. Once again, I witnessed the 5th
championship Kobe won and number 16 for the franchise. As for my hesitancy I’m not sure what that’s
all about I’ve seen several movies repeatedly where the main or co-star has
since died. I offer no explanation for
my hesitancy I guess this will subside one day in the future.
This is a little
old now
Almost immediately after Iona hired Rick Pitino, he
confessed…sorta. “I deserved to be fired by
Louisville," Pitino said. "Was I innocent of any wrongdoing? Yes, I
was, but I was the leader and I deserved to be fired. I need to move on and
that's what I probably have learned the most."* If you remember the
history Pitino sued Louisville and battled them in court for over two
years.
If you remember the story of the Adidas trial several assistant
coaches were fired however Pitino was the only head coach replaced. Although Louisville was then and remains an
Adidas school Pitino was not directly tied to the scandal. The remaining question, what about the other
head coaches? As this is written all we’ve
heard were crickets except for Bill Self and Kansas basketball.

I have no medical background
The disclaimer is out front in the headline. Over the weekend the president made a
conference call to the commissioners of all major sports. He is reported to emphasize his interest in
starting the season. The news media
quoted him desiring for the NFL season to begin on time. This is a basketball blog, so we’ll deal with
the NBA here.
I’m sure most NBA fans desire the season to resume I
certainly do but there is a further issue.
This is an invisible enemy that continues to impact the world as this is
written. At a time, it can be determined
we can sit next to someone without fear of becoming infected is the point to
begin play. We cannot pick out a future
date and decide that is the point to begin play again. I would be extremely disappointed however if
the 2019-20 NBA season is cancelled so be it.
The thing is not
yet true
Your son or daughter sees a caterpillar and says to you, "Look dad a butterfly." The airline flight has you halfway to
Paris from New York City, you call your wife over the Atlantic Ocean “Hello Jane I’m
almost there.” Both statements will eventually
be true at a point in time, they are just not true currently. That’s the case of LaMelo Ball, on Friday his
agent Jermaine Jackson made an announcement the two had partnered to purchase the
Illawarra Hawks of the Australian NBL.
In this instance “The thing is not yet true” according
to updated news. The league announced
they continue to work with the present owner however no sale been consummated
as of late Saturday. There is no issue
with Ball and partner Jackson purchasing the Hawks, if they haven’t signed on
the dotted line the proclamation should be announced in a different
manner. “We are negotiating to purchase
the Illawarra Hawks” sounds much better than “It’s a done deal.” NOTE: Late word indicates the parties
remain in the discussion stage regarding the team’s purchase.
The season didn’t
develop as hoped
There are times it would appear we are excusing play of a
team. That might be the case for Memphis
basketball depending on your perspective.
Memphis basketball was the subject of an ESPN.com story, it pointed out
the Tigers have not played as many in the media believed. They answered the question right at the
beginning, Penny Hardaway thought he’d have James Wiseman on his roster all
season. We know what occurred with Wiseman, suspended by the NBA he
eventually left school. Precious
Achiuwa’s had a good freshman season along with others. The problem (if there is one) the school’s not been as productive
as first believed in the American Athletic Conference.
