Basketball from a fan’s perspective

This from the Urban Dictionary, Wolf Ticket- “To speak aggressively to someone without intending to back it up with violence.” He' selling wolf tickets, meaning he’s barking but not going to bite.”  That description fits LaVar Ball to a T, remember before eldest son Lonzo set foot on an NBA court.  The father pronounced his son better than Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan.

Along comes LeMelo who is likely the most talented of the trio, daddy Ball once again.  “Melo is better than Jason Kidd” we heard him proclaim.  How about this one, “All three of my son’s are gonna play for the Lakers,” how is that working out for you LaVar?  Do not get me wrong if I had sons capable of playing at the NBA level I would be pleased beyond measure.  I certainly would not put them on the spot by making asinine statements.

True
We are not sure if this is official or not so take it for what it is worth.  Shaquille  O’Neal claims there will be two planned moves by the NBA, an existing franchise will relocate to Las Vegas and another will move.  What do you think, is Shaq just talking or is the possibility of this occurring real?  As for Las Vegas, it should prove interesting to determine how the NFL Raiders attract fans, football compared to basketball might appear unequal.  16 games for one sport and 41 for the other, one game played once a week versus 3 times a week.  As for the other move its clear that’s got to be a return to Seattle, the NBA owes the fans there.  If there are further developments, you will be apprised.

Normally this is non news
Mizzou assistant coach Michael Porter Sr.’s contract expired on April 30.  Normally this is not news however there is a story beyond the story.  The coach was hired with the prospect of son Michael Porter Jr. becoming a Tiger.  Michael Porter Jr. arrived on campus a Rivals 5-star prospect and the number one prospect in several mock draft sites.

Michael Porter Jr. did indeed appear on the court, but it became just a blip as he played but 3 games due to injury.  He left for the NBA in 2018 and was drafted by the NBA’s Denver Nuggets.  The injury bug struck younger brother Jontay as well, he left Mizzou also without substantial time on the court.  If we looked strictly at the paycheck of Michael Porter Jr. Mizzou received little in the way of benefit from hiring the father.

The Hawks
Atlanta is now the home of the Hawks but that is only been since 1968. Prior to that time the franchise was in St. Louis, Milwaukee, and Tri-City. They played a single season in Buffalo in 1946 as the Bison. What about an All-Times Hawk team of players? We must begin with Bob Pettit who began play in Milwaukee and moved with the franchise to St. Louis, he played with the team from 1954-1965. Pettit was selected as a member of the NBA’s 50th Anniversary Team.

Bob Pettit
Lenny Wilkens
Dominque Wilkins
Lou Hudson
Pete Maravich

Honorable mention might include
Bill Bridges
Zelmo Beaty
Steve Smith
Walt Bellamy
John Drew*

*Despite personal problems involving suspension during a portion of his career Drew had several outstanding seasons for the Hawks.
