Basketball from a fan’s perspective
Additional details
On Saturday we discussed the penalty Kansas basketball faces,
the corrected update is 5 level 1 violations. The penalty facing Coach Self, athletic
department and school are from NCAA.org:
Level I: Severe breach
of conduct
Violations
that seriously undermine or threaten the integrity of the NCAA collegiate model
as set forth in the Constitution and bylaws, including any violation that
provides or is intended to provide a substantial or extensive recruiting,
competitive or other advantage, or a substantial or extensive impermissible
benefit.
Listening to KC Beats podcast a reporter who covers Kansas
basketball stated, “Unless these parties come to an agreement this is likely
headed to court.” This reporter also
mentioned voices we have heard. “What
about North Carolina and it’s violations” they say? Whether you agree with the judgement or not
the issue covered course work, the court determined the NCAA had no
authority in this area. I have no background in the legal profession but speculate this
is where we are headed
It is possible
Why did Michael Jordan wear 23 then 45 and 23 again? I am glad you ask the question; the Bulls
retired his number in 1994. We guess the
Bulls must have “un-retired” 23 as he returned to wear it in the 1995-96 season. Could MJ have been successful playing baseball? That question will forever remain a mystery forever however his work ethic says.....yes.

Why are we so worried about college basketball, the basis for
this account is the NBA’s G-League?
There were concerns many years ago when high school players were being
drafted into the NBA. This will ruin
college basketball was the cry, the NBA changed its rule no longer drafting
high school players.
A short time later high school prospects began to commit to colleges but would only remain a year, this will ruin college basketball was the cry once again.

Now the revised effort by the G-League has caused an upset
once again.
As this is written three exceptionally talented high school prospects are now deciding in favor of the G-League and for the third time we hear, this will ruin college basketball. The college game is fine, we no longer have dominant teams but that is understandable, and it is okay. Sometimes there are instances we make a problem when none exists.

Bad Blood
Think there might have been an issue between Laker center Shaquille
O’Neal and his Knick counterpart Chris Dudley?
Check out this video, we are not able to witness what might have
occurred prior to the “incident.”
Can you say growth
spurt?
LeBron James stood 6-8 and 245 pounds at the time he
graduated high school, Shaq was 7-1 and 250 while enrolled at LSU. We could make the same statement about Kareem
Abdul Jabbar, he was the same height (7-2) in the NBA as when he left Power
Memorial High School for UCLA. With LeBron,
Shaq and Kareem and others they were at their adult height and gained additional
weight.
Maturity in the trio added pounds but practically no
additional stature. As for others they
might be considered shrimp versus their eventual NBA height. Check out the athletes below their height in
high school and compare it to the NBA. It
is clear all experienced a growth spurt,
especially Spurs center David Robinson.
Can you imagine Robinson stood 5 feet 8 and later was 7 foot 1 when
drafted into the NBA?
Anthony Davis 6-foot-1 6-foot-10
David Robinson 5-foot-9 7-foot-1
Scottie Pippen 6-foot-1 6-foot-7
Dennis Rodman 5-foot-6 6-foot-8
Manu Ginobili 5-foot-8 6-foot-6
