Basketball from a fan perspective
Congratulations---The Seattle Storm win the 2020 WNBA Championship, this is a follow up to their 2018 win. The Storm are a force in the WNBA and congratulations are certainly in order.
Talk about mic drop---Steve Kerr did it, don’t slay the messenger it was him not me. “We won’t turn into the Rockets. We’re still going to be the Warriors. We’re not going to all of a sudden turn into the Rockets and change our offense and have one guy go high pick-and-roll 70 times a game.” This was a clear dig at the D’Antoni Rockets however all that will change in 2020-21, we don’t know as this is written but they will have a new coach. New coach of course entails new offense, despite having a veteran team the Rockets might be in change mode in the same manner as several other teams.
NBA
Champions--- Once the Lakers win the NBA Championship they will be tied with the
Celtics (17) for most NBA wins. Then
again if you agree with NBA analyst Jeff Van Gundy this will be championship
number 12 on the Lakers resume. It was
mentioned the other day Van Gundy believes 5 championships won in Minneapolis
don’t count. The former coach and
analyst is certainly entitled to his view on this matter however for most of us
it doesn’t hold water. There were
basketball examples cited but what about other pro sports?
The NFL Colts won a Super Bowl in Baltimore, Indianapolis is home now
but the win is still listed. The
baseball Braves have won 3 World Series, 1914, 1957 and 1995. The most recent World Series win occurred in Atlanta,
the others. In 1914 the team was in
Boston and 1957 it was Milwaukee. There
are other instances, I chose to look at football and baseball to provide proof
Van Gundy has an opinion, but it is clearly not the only one. There is a one other issue here,
championships no matter the sport are difficult to attain.
We look at the Showtime Lakers, The Jordan Bulls, and the recent run of
the Warriors. Many of us decide a
championship run is easy for a team.
I’m always reminded of the Dan Marino story. The Hall of Fame QB made it to the Super Bowl
I believe in his second season, the Dolphins lost however Marino felt for sure
his team would return. Over the next 14
or 15 years despite having the best QB in the game the Dolphins never
returned. Never ever consider any
championship trivial whenever or wherever it occurred.
I believe---This is probably going to prove me incorrect and I give you permission in advance to laugh at me. This is just a gut feeling, Class of 2021 prospect Aminu Mohammed is headed to Mizzou. Earlier we introduced this 6--foot 4-inch shooting guard to many of you, Mohammed attends Greenwood Laboratory High School on the campus of Missouri State University.
The youngster is awarded 5-stars by Rivals.com, in addition to prove his perceived talent there are scholarship offers from 12 schools including one from Mizzou. Once Mohammed decides on a destination, I will return to address his choice of schools, if his decision is the one I perceive I will return to gloat, if that happens to not be the case I believe this becomes a confession of my non-psychic ability.
