Basketball from a fans perspective

Ranking
Recently I wrote of the deplorable record of Missouri basketball.  I offer further proof, CBS Sports.com ranked the position of all 351 Division I schools.

Missouri State - 142
Mizzou - 162
St Louis University - 278
Southeast Missouri State - 328
UMKC - 338

WIP
A number might be unfamiliar with the term WIP; it simply means Work In Progress.  That fit’s the Lakers based on what I witnessed last night against the Warriors.  Yes it was an exhibition game, yes the Warriors played for the NBA Championship last season.  As for WIP the young Lakers are a new team from the coach on down to several new players.  If this sounds as an excuse for my Lakers far from it, the Warriors are very, very good and the Lakers are very, very young.  Rookie Brandon Ingram had a breakout game for the Lakers.  21 points 7 of 10 from the floor and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line 7 rebounds and 4 assists say outstanding.

Not guilty
Just in case you missed this story Knick guard Derrick Rose and two friends were found not liable of charges stemming from the civil lawsuit filed by a former girl friend.  A question still remains in the mind of amateur sleuths such as me.  This trial appeared to run contrary to most, you have a criminal trial and at times a civil trail much later.

In this instance a criminal investigation was underway while the civil trial was proceeding.  To add to the confusion the lead investigative detective died recently of a suicide the Los Angeles coroner ruled.  The County of Los Angeles plans on continuing the criminal investigation.  Because Rose and friends were found not liable of charges how does that affect criminal proceedings? Notice I didn’t say not guilty I said not liable there is a distention.

The other Kentucky “School”
The Kentucky and Louisville programs are so bright they block out the sun.  In the hearts of the residents you either or for one school or the other.  Western Kentucky in Bowling Green has a rich basketball history but nowhere near the level of Kentucky and Louisville.  Veteran Coach Rick Stansbury was hired to replace the departed Ray Harper who left for Jacksonville State.  *“The men’s basketball program has the 16th most victories in the history of the NCAA and has attained the 8th the best winning percentage in NCAA history.”

Don’t think the Stansbury effect won’t work, consider this fact.  Zion Williamson the number 2 prospect in the Class of 2018 has a Western Kentucky visit scheduled. Williamson is yet to make a commitment to any school but has a scheduled visit at Western Kentucky. As for the incoming Class of 2017 prospects Western Kentucky is listed in the Top Ten by ESPN Recruiting Nation. This should be an indication the school intends to compete with the larger programs including state rivals Kentucky and Louisville.
