The “new” Superman
It’s possible you might not have knowledge of the story, among the nicknames Shaq provided himself was “Superman.” Several years later Dwight Howard arrived in the NBA and guess what, he anointed himself with the same nickname. Naturally this created a feud between the two, it didn’t hurt that both centers were often matched against one another on the basketball court. Shaq’s been retired for several years and so has Howard although he remains on the active roster of the Wizards (That was a joke). The original Superman has passed the torch, Shaq’s given the nickname to the Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo.

It’s time for a change
The University of MO-Kansas City is a Division I program, more and more I’m convinced the school would be better served moving to D-II or even the NAIA level. As mentioned previously I envisioned a UCLA, Louisville or Villanova or something similar. An urban university with playing exciting and competitive basketball. Unfortunately, alum, students and Kansas City has never witnessed what many hoped.

UMKC
is off to 1-8 beginning, unfortunately the prospects for improved play don’t
appear on the horizon. The WAC
Conference is not tough however UMKC might be overmatched especially this
season. We’ve witnessed chancellor,
athletic director and head coaching change yet there have been few changes on
the court. I will repeat my earlier
statement perhaps its time to downgrade the basketball program. Area D-II and NAIA universities and colleges
appear successful why not UMKC?
The calendar is about to turn
By now most NBA teams have played at least 20 games, it’s time for our monthly check on rookies. The draft of 2018 appears to be deep and provides an indication of the bright future for the league. This crop of rookies is led by Luka Doncic however he’s not the only youngster in this rich class, most pointed to the fact this class would be outstanding. There are other rookies not listed here, the focus is on the top portion to date.

Bamba, Landry Shamet or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and others remain on the threshold. The “others”, how about last season as an
example. Most NBA fans were quite familiar
with the name Ben Simmons prior to the draft.
A smaller number were aware of Donovan Mitchell of the Jazz who many
believed should have been Rookie of the Year.
The point, we are familiar with the names below, which unnamed player
bursts on the scene later in the season to be included?

Maybe the rivalry is too recent
The rivalry between Missouri and Kansas goes far beyond sports, in the 1850’s the slavery issue and divided loyalty contributed to the animosity between the two states. Later at the time the two began playing sports in the late 19th Century the rivalry was born on the football field, basketball court and other sports areas. For reasons not fully cleared the competition existed between Kansas and Missouri only.
Kansas State is an-state foe however the rivalry really exists in football, basketball is a different subject. In any event Mizzou and Kansas are no longer conference rivals and unlikely to play one another in football or basketball except on rare occasions. SEC Arkansas shares a southern border with SEC Mizzou, in addition Arkansas basketball coach Mike Anderson once served as head coach at Mizzou. I’ve believed for a while that’s the “new” rivalry to replace the one Kansas once held.
