Basketball from a fans perspective

Known as assist men
There is a premium on passing the basketball, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash and Maurice Cheeks prove that to be a fact.  All three will be enshrined in the Naismith Hall of Fame in September.  The top 10 list of NBA all-time assist leaders is almost complete with the addition of the three.  Mark Jackson at number four, Chris Paul at nine and still adding to his number and Andre Miller round out the Top 10.  We believe Paul will be added to the HOF as soon as he’s eligible but what about Jackson and Miller?  I look at assists totally different from scoring the ball, a number of players have a “me first” attitude.  These point guards sacrificed their game to benefit the team and teammates the ultimate example of teamwork, what do you think?

Legacy
Dictionary.com list four definitions for the word Legacy, this one I best believe applies to this discussion: "Anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor”.  Much has been written and stated regarding the legacy of LeBron James.  As he approaches free-agency there is a question regarding his decision, does he leave Cleveland once again?  Will the landing spot be the Rockets, Clippers or Lakers?  We still hold the late Wilt Chamberlain in high esteem despite the fact he played for the Warriors, Sixers and Lakers.

We look at his accomplishments on the court rather than the number of teams.  LeBron James will walk into the Hall of Fame once his playing career is over, there will be little mention of his upcoming free-agency move in the future.  In fact, unless you are a basketball nerd you probably thought Wilt Chamberlain only played for the Lakers.  Fact is a few you might have forgotten or didn’t know Michael Jordan played for another team other than the Bulls.  No, I’m not talking about that brief period when he played minor league baseball.  From 2001 to 2003 MJ spent time as a member of the Washington Wizards.

They almost blew it
Notre Dame women had the ball and the lead with seconds remaining in the NCAA semi-final championship game.  An inbound pass by Notre Dame was intercepted and UConn scored tying the game.  The result, a missed shot at the end of regulation and OT was necessary.  “I thought Notre Dame is gonna blow it, they had the game won in regulation and allowed UConn back in.”  Arike Ogunbowale Notre Dame guard hit a jumper just inside the 3-point line her 27th point, the basket proved to be the winner in a thrilling 91-89 OT win.  Congrats to both teams especially UConn which came into the game with an undefeated record.  If someone says; “You shoot like a girl” that’s no longer the negative it might have been at one time.  In fact, the truth is there are several aspects of the women's game that in my opinion is far superior to that of the men, i.e. shooting free-throws as an example.

Mr. Triple-Double
Any of the following three might be considered Mr. Triple-Double.  Thunder guard Russell Westbrook leads the NBA with 23 triple-doubles, he’s followed by LeBron James with 16.  In third place is Ben Simmons with his 11th of the season on Friday.  The Sixers would play their first game with Joel Embiid sidelined due to injury.  Simmons scored but 13 points but added 12 rebounds and 11 assists to his game summary.  The point guard has been handled so efficiently this season I’m unsure if the Sixers were in a rush for Markelle Fultz to return to action.  The position has been handled by the Rookie of the Year Ben Simmons.

 Another Porter?
His name is Coban Porter, he’s a 6-foot 3-inch 170-pound point guard.  If a growth spurt kicks in a manner like his older brothers all four might be “eye-balling” one another.  How do I know Coban will continue to grow, just speculation on my part?  Consider this, Michael Jr. entered high school as a 6 feet 5-inch freshman and now stands 6 feet 10 inches, brother Jontay is measured at 6 feet 11 inches.

As for Coban he’s a sophomore at Father Tolton Catholic High School in Columbia (MO).  You ask me if Coban can play, I have no idea however I tend to believe he might have some skill and ability to play basketball.  You said four brothers at the beginning, who’s the 4th?  That would be youngest brother Izaak Porter age 12.  No word on his skill but it is interesting he’s playing basketball too; the Porter’s might exceed the number of Rick Barry’s off-spring playing the game.
