Basketball from a fan’s perspective

Bits n Pieces
I was unsure if this account was communicated properly.  Athletes declaring for the draft can hire an agent and still return to school.  I believe the last date to indicate a return to school is May 29.
The worlds best kept secret came to fruition on Monday.  Zion Williamson Duke freshman announced he was declaring for the NBA draft.  Is it Knicks, Suns, Cavs or Bulls in his future?
The search to fill the Lakers head coach position includes several names.  I have no comment on any of the names, as I stated earlier whoever the Lakers hire must win immediately.

Imagine the shock of those in the Midwest and East Time Zone.  We went to bed with the Warriors holding a 31-point lead.  We discovered this morning the Clippers won the game 135-131 tying the series.
Apparently, it works
We guess having 6-foot 1-inch Patrick Beverly guard 6-foot 10-inch Kevin Durant must have worked.  Both witnessed the conclusion of game one from the locker room, a skirmish between the two caused them to be ejected.  Beverly known for his defensive prowess “held” Durant to 23 points on 50% shooting, meanwhile Beverly managed to score 1 point.  Normally I try and not determine a coach’s mindset, this one’s got me stumped.  Beverly was giving up 9 inches in height and 55 pounds to the taller and much heavier Durant.
Who should we believe?
Florida State beat Murray State and Ja Morant 90-62 in the Sweet Sixteen game of the NCAA West Regional.  After I read an account of the game the emails begin to flow into the website with several sharing their opinion of the game and more specifically Morant.  One writer was more critical of Ja Morant than other members of Murray State.  He questioned the point guard’s ability to play at the NBA level, no problem with expressing your belief but is it valid?
Despite the writers view there was a voice of dissent and it wasn’t from yours truly.  It was from Jerry West, you are familiar with the name, aren’t you?  NBA champion player, Hall of Fame, architect of the Showtime Lakers I could go on, but you get the idea.  The Logo claims the most exciting player in the 2019 NBA draft is not Zion Williamson it’s Ja Morant.  Who should we believe, the guy sitting in front of his television set or Jerry West?  Never mind I believe the answer is obvious.
Wonder now
The Nets have been in the Borough of Brooklyn since 2012 and I wonder if there’s been a change.  Filmmaker, director and Brooklyn resident Spike Lee will never change his loyalty is to the Knicks only.  The Nets are back in the playoffs in 2019 but in an earlier venue no one claimed them.  In 2002 the team then located in New Jersey played the Lakers for the NBA championship, this I cannot confirm although it sounds plausible based on my experience.  A Kansas City media guy claims while covering the series he ventured into downtown Manhattan and could locate no Nets fan gear; did he visit one sports store or five it was never made clear.  Last August while visiting upstate New York we discovered a similar issue.
The sporting goods store had a large inventory of Yankee, Mets, Rangers, Giants and Jets apparel.  Seeing no Kansas City Chiefs apparel we ask one of the associates.  He looked at us strangely as if we spoke in a foreign language.  No NFL Chiefs apparel, yes, I could see no Nets stuff back then the team was on the other side of the Hudson River.  I wonder if attendance figures alone are a barometer of a team’s success (or lack thereof).  Despite that fact here goes, the Nets have not led the NBA in attendance since the move to Brooklyn.  At the same time if doesn’t appear fans are rushing out to buy tickets in great numbers but there might be a partial explanation.  Attendance suffers for poor teams even in New York City, this is the first Nets playoff team in three years.  Let’s see how this plays out over the next several years.
