Basketball from a fan’s perspective

On the other hand
Allow for a revision on my part, you might remember I once said the Thunder would exit the playoffs in the first round.  I made the statement prior to seeding, now that’s complete.  The final season standings have the Thunder matched against the Blazers.  I’m revising my guesstimate, the 6 seed Thunder could beat the 3 seed Blazers, I’m not saying it will occur it’s possible.  If that should happen the Thunder might escape the first round this time around.
The number
We cannot be for sure if this is the largest number to ever declare for the NBA draft.  I’ve never made a count and don’t remember if totals were provided in the past.  According to NBADraft.net the number declaring is 47 as of April 10, the deadline to announce a player’s intention is April 21.  With more than a week remaining we might see several more names added to the list.  It should be noted all have not hired agents, several are just assessing their ability to play at the NBA level.  There is no method to determine the percentage who will return to school.
It remains a team game
At the time Kyrie Irving departed the Cavs the word was he wanted to get out from under LeBron’s shadow or similar words.  Now at the end of his second year with the Celtics we are hearing the same story once again.  This time there is no mention of why just the fact he wants to leave.  The Knicks are supposedly in the lead for his services although we cannot be quite sure of this until July 1,
We have no idea if this valid news or just media talk, we might understand the Kyrie Irving move the first time.  LeBron returned to Kyrie’s team; he took over the Cavs not with malice but just the fact he was the man at the time. Youth might have played a part we might guess that to be the case.  No situation be it the locker room or the boardroom is going to be perfect, you must make the best you can regarding those around you.  If Irving does leave and the move fails to satisfy, he just might want to check his mirror.
Maybe you saw it
Generally, the evening network news omits covering sports, there is a clear explanation why this occurs.  Local stations plus ESPN SportsCenter, Fox Sports and NBA TV provides us all the news we need.  In any event CBS news focused on Steph Curry’s basketball camp, in high school Curry was a scrawny 6 foot 2 inches and 165 pounds a Rivals 3-star prospect.
You can understand why major colleges were not recruiting Curry, it’s likely you found that difficult to believe now base on his shooting prowess in the NBA.  In any event Curry indicated doesn’t matter where you begin the journey it’s where you end it.  His basketball camp is for 3-star athletes only like him at the time he was in high school.  Although his dad Dell had a long NBA career many believed young Curry didn’t have the ability to raise his game to a higher skill level.
Captain Speculation
You might remember I stated you cannot give yourself a nickname.  Well I’m going back on my word, in addition to Larry Laker I am also Captain Speculation.  As of April 11, the top choice in all the mock sites Zion Williamson is yet to say he’s in the draft.  Time remains for a decision April 21 is the last date for a college player to declare, heavens forbid what if he decides to remain at Duke?  The 2019 draft will be thrown into mayhem, what happens?  We must draw on Captain Speculation’s belief of these series of events.
If the Knicks receive the top pick it’s unlikely, they draft Ja Morant with a young point guard (Michael Smith Jr.) on the roster already?  With no Williamson in the draft they take R.J. Barrett from Duke or Rui Hachimura from Gonzaga. Should the Cavs pick second, they would choose Morant the pick most mock sites indicate.  Jarrett Culver sharpshooting guard from Texas Tech would land someplace between 3-5.  The balance of this Williamsonless draft would include Jaxon Hayes, Cameron Reddish and Coby White.  The 2019 draft only turns out in this manner should wunderkind Zion Williamson return to Duke.
