Trades do not occur that often
Since the advent of free-agency fewer and fewer
trades occur in the NBA, they do but not that often. The statement is made regarding front-line
players, the Lakers acquisition of Anthony Davis certainly could be considered
a block buster trade. Over the last 10
years other than the Laker trade Kawhi Leonard might be the one most consider
earth moving. Leonard was the 15th
player chosen in 2011 by the Pacers, he would never play for the Pacers. His rights were traded to the Spurs where he thrived
for 7 seasons.
Despite his sterling play Leonard would become
upset with Spurs management, especially their medical staff. Fear of losing him as a free agent he was
traded to the Raptors where he led the way to the teams first NBA
Championship. Leonard never signed a
contract in Toronto and early indications where he would become a free agent
and sign with the Lakers. Of course we know that didn't occur as Leonard signed with the Clippers, so there you have it, the movement of Kawhi Leonard might be the biggest trade in the last 10 years although his last move was as a free agent.
Pandemic
The world and this nation have been shut down due
to covid-19. Thanks to the medical
community working enormous hours the effect of the virus has slowed. Notice I did not say covid-19 was over it is
increasing at a slightly slower pace. This
has caused many athletic pursuits to begin preparations for play. As you are aware all sports have a varying
degree of crowd gathering, there are several that could operate with few fans. The NFL, NHL and baseball have indicated they
intend to start (or restart) the season.
As for college football and basketball it
remains somewhat unclear as this is written.
The NBA has established a start date and a conclusion for 2019-20. Play
will be in Orlando only for the non-playoff teams to conclude the season. The possibility of a covid-19 uptick among
NBA players is an unknown. Naturally,
the player or players will be restricted but what about teammates, coaches, and
the small number of front office persons?
We have no idea how that portion of the season will play out; we can only adjust to it based on the results.
I’ve got a Secret
This has nothing to do with the television quiz show of the 1950’s. On second thought maybe it is not much of a secret for many around the Philadelphia metro just the balance of us. Coaching aside notice I did not restrict myself by separating Jay Wright from NBA coaches I said the best dressed---period. I’m trying to imagine who might come nearest to Wright and I’m drawing a complete blank.
Now we know what a number of folks know in Philadelphia, no off the rack suits for Wright his suits are custom tailored. Wright’s suits range in price from $300 to $500 which is economical for a custom-made suit. This cannot be confirmed but it is reported the coach has two closets in his bedroom one for his suits and one for shoes, slacks, and shirts. I’ve already noted it but perhaps you should pay as much attention to the sartorial style of Wright as his X’s and O’ philosophy.
A decision
The decision was simple for Cade Cunningham,
the 6-foot 7-point guard was the Rivals number one prospect for 2020. Oklahoma State had the hook up since Cade’s
brother Cannen was an assistant coach on the staff, in addition there was a
relationship with head coach Mike Boynton.
Everything was running along smoothly however a quandary developed
recently. No, it was not the pandemic it
was the NCAA. Oklahoma State was placed
on a 1-year probation by the NCAA, how would this move affect Cade?
This is written strictly from a speculative
standpoint so keep that in mind. More
than likely Cade was going to be a one-and-done prospect, OSU was probably not
expecting him to remain past his freshman year.
The regular season is one thing, with no opportunity to display his
talent in the NCAA Tournament does he or is he willing to remain at OSU? In conclusion is it possible the school
releases him to sign elsewhere? Those
questions remain unanswered at this point, stay tuned for further developments.
