Basketball from a fans perspective

Impossible
Attempting to watch two games at the same time, the Thunder-Pacer game on Fox Sports Midwest and the Kansas-Kansas State re-match on ESPN.  I’m changing channels back and forth hoping I don’t miss a crucial play in either game.  As for the Thunder game it ended first, the Thunder could have tied it.   Westbrook missed two three point attempts final Pacers 93 Thunder 90.  Had to leave the house so I had to find out the final score of Kansas-Kansas State on-line. Kansas 74 K-State 71, hopefully there was no traveling call.

This is interesting
Often the AP and USA Today Coaches Poll Top 25 polls don’t match one another except at the number one slot.  That’s not the case for February 6 they match.

AP                    USA Today
1. Gonzaga Gonzaga
2. Villanova Villanova
3. Kansas           Kansas
4. Louisville Louisville

The number 5 team in the AP poll is Oregon while Wisconsin is number 5 in the USA Today Coaches poll.

Coach Larry
I’m unsure if I mentioned it I’ve returned to the coaching ranks.  I agreed to help coach a 2nd grade basketball team and there were plenty of changes for me.

1.  The team is co-ed; I’ve never coached girls’ previously only boys
2.  No double dribbles are called
3.  Score is not kept
4.  Players cannot steal the ball
3.  8 foot baskets in use

Despite the drastic change the Eagles are 2-1 so far.  How do I know our record with no score? The league didn’t say anything about counting baskets scored in your head.

A decision?
It appears the Sixers are about to resolve their dual center dilemma, reports are circulating Jahlil Okafor is possibly headed to New Orleans.  This makes sense on several levels, despite his 6-11 frame Anthony Davis is not a true center where as Okafor is.  Okafor is a decent scorer not a particularly good at rebounding the basketball but even that’s okay.  Davis is a heavy lifter on the boards so rebounding the basketball are resolved.  Folding Okafor into the Pelicans lineup is not an automatic solve but should add them to gain respectability.  Nerlens Noel is now free to play the power forward position if he too is the real deal.

Arena names
I thought I’d re-visit this subject again since I’m watching the New Mexico Lobos at their home WisePies Arena, sorry Albuquerque it will always be The Pit for me.  Instead of the New Orleans Arena we now have the Smoothie King Center home of the Pelicans.  The company is a food retailer catering fruit based drinks I would guess in the metro or state.  Golden One Credit Union purchased the naming rights to Sacramento’s new arena and it was named Golden One Center prior to its opening.  This is a credit union that only conducts business in California.  .

As for the other arenas the story is quite different.  Staples franchises are located throughout the nation and Staples Center is home to the Lakers and Clippers.  In Louisville the Cardinals play in the KFC Yum Center, Kentucky Fried Chicken first began business in the state.  The arena which opens next year in downtown Detroit is Little Caesars Arena and will serve as home to the Pistons and NHL Red Wings.  There are other arenas with corporate America names in front of the building, Taco Bell Arena home of Boise State?  The United Center, American Airlines Center, American Airlines Arena and Sprint Center.  There are other corporate names not included here this provides you just a glimpse.
