Basketball from a fans perspective

Published Monday through Friday

It’s only Summer League people
“Nothing to see here people move along,” well that’s not exactly true.  Lonzo Ball had 6 TO’s versus the Sixers, the balance of his box score was a stat stuffer.  Ball played 36 minutes however we may have been provided a glimpse into the NBA future of this youngster.  This is certainly no attempt to claim this is the future for Ball it could be exciting if just a small portion might come to fruition.    Ball shot .545 from the floor scoring 36 points along with 11 assists 8 rebounds 5 steals and 2 blocked shots leading the way to a 103-102 victory.

At half-time Ball went behind the counter serving effectively as a vendor, just kidding about that folks.  You ask the question about Ball’s defense and I will say that’s an unknown.  A number of players are great at defense while others are good team defensive players.  There are other players who practice “matador” defense; it’s yet to be determined where Ball will ultimately lie in this area. He certainly has the height and nose for the ball (get it).  Laker fans please calm down, refrain yourselves it was only a Summer League game, “nothing to see here people move along.”

It could occur
I don’t remember when I first came to this conclusion, after years of pining for a Mizzou-Kansas game I just concluded I no longer care.  Bill Self had damned his former rival since Mizzou left the Big 12 Conference.  Kansas was determined they would never play Mizzou until Hell froze over.  To my knowledge Hell has not frozen over however the possibility of the two schools meeting is a possibility.  Tom Keegan KU Sports.com poses that very question he says the teams could meet in the 2018 NCAA Tournament which might occur.

Keegan discusses the possibility the teams could meet in the NCAA Tournament which is certainly possible.  In 2015 you don’t think the committee was salivating with the possibility of Wichita State playing Kansas.  As I pointed out earlier Kansas has refused to play Wichita State over the years, final score Wichita State 78 Kansas 65.  If Mizzou should meet Kansas in an NCAA so be it, this is one Mizzou fan that certainly has no desire to play the Jayhawks unless its tournament play.

I love it
Sport debates at the barber shop in between classes at school wherever they might occur I love them.  I must state only to a point, the media especially tends to dwell in the land of the impossible.  Example, they will match the 2000 Lakers against the 2017 Warriors or Michael Jordan versus LeBron James.

The 1927 Yankees versus the 1958 Yankees which team was better?  The teams, players and aspects of the game have changed over time how is a comparison logically accurate?  I would guess these types of debates make for media filler especially in television.  One on one at the barber shop and other locations debate is fun when it compares a generational difference that’s when it becomes ludicrous to me.  Debate is only fun to a point.

I’m not going to take credit
This is a portion of a discussion on Pardon the Interruption on ESPN between Michael Wilbon and Frank Isola.  Richard Sherman Seahawks cornerback was complaining about the money many of the NBA players would be receiving based on free-agency.  He stated something like “NFL players need to go on strike in order to raise our pay.”

Wilbon and Isola, “NBA teams are 12 players with 30 teams; the NFL is 53 players and 32 teams. The last time NFL players went on strike the owners hired replacement players.  You cannot find substitute talent for Kevin Durant and others.”  They are both correct, NBA players have gone on strike in the past for money and the league shut down period.  The NFL hires replacement players.
