Basketball from a fans perspective

I wasn’t serious but……
In a manner like yours I’m only as good as the information provided me to digest.  Bleacher Report on their NBA page has a strange story regarding Sixers rookie Markelle Fultz.  Read it for yourself because its long and elaborate, the abridged version says, “Fultz has forgotten how to shoot.”  Remember a week or so ago I wrote of a curse on Sixers first round draft picks, I was only joking, or was I?

The better team won
No doubt in my mind the better team won on Thursday night, I always hope for a Laker victory  however this night it was not be. In the final 5 seconds or so of the game of their game against the Blazers Damian Lillard sank a winning 3-point basket Blazers 113 Lakers 110.  In addition to the win it was significant the manner Lillard made the shot.  After the Laker timeout the 6-9 Brandon Ingram was assigned to guard the 6-3 Lillard.  Instead of attempting to drive around Ingram Lillard took a few dribbles rose and took the shot sinking the basket.

Can you say, “ice water” running through Lillard’s veins? In still worst news Larry Nance Jr. left the game in the 3rd quarter after striking his hand, later it was announced he’d suffered a broken hand, no time-table for his possible return.  As for Lonzo Ball his game was far too passive for me on Thursday evening.  For him to say; “I should have been more aggressive” ain’t getting it done in my view.  Lonzo I know you represent a different shoe company but the one with a swoosh once said in its commercials “Just do it.

I guess it’s too much to expect
College sports needs an administrator of rules, that falls on the institutions and NCAA although we are not always sure the NCAA is best in taking the lead.  I’ve covered several instances of the NCAA being out of touch regarding decisions.  The latest news proves that point in spades, the name Braxton Bailey might be unknown to you he was to me.  Bailey planned on playing basketball for North Carolina State but has been ruled ineligible by the NCAA.

Was it grades or some other event or circumstance that causes Bailey to miss the 2017-18 season?  Bailey enrolled and took courses in summer school at Ohio State his former school.  “The NCAA viewed him as a freshman transfer instead of an incoming prospect since he had already enrolled in classes.”  The school fired Thad Matta and Bailey decided to transfer, the NCAA said; “Due to being enrolled at Ohio State during the summer he was declared ineligible.  Let’s face it athletes attend schools due to the coach with Matta no longer at Ohio State Bailey felt no inclination to remain.  What do you think?

“Are we there yet?”
The familiar lament of small children when traveling, “Are we there yet?”  That might be UMKC players too.  If you said Western Athletic Conference your thought would be the athletic teams would all be in the western portion of the United States.  That thought might be the view but it’s not quite correct, consider this one team (University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley) is in the southwestern portion of the nation.

Two schools have Midwest locations Chicago State and University of Missouri-Kansas City. I remain unconvinced the university about 20 minutes from my house made the correct move when they changed conferences.  The Mid-Continent Conference (Summit League now) might have been more suited for UMKC than the WAC.  Nothing is the same as the Summit has lost teams too however Illinois, Colorado and Oklahoma are certainly a great deal closer than Seattle University, Utah Valley State or Cal State-Bakersfield Pacific Time Zone members.
