Basketball from a fans perspective
He likes pizza but so do a number of folks
The first Blaze Pizza restaurant is opening in the Kansas City suburb of Liberty this week. The restaurant is fairy new having been founded 7 years ago in Pasadena California, in December 2017 there were a reported 286 stores in the U.S., Canada and Kuwait. This blog is about basketball why are you covering a restaurant opening? It was reported on our local Kansas City news LeBron James loves Blaze Pizza so much he became a part-owner and spokesman for the franchise. News reports indicate he’s shown up at Blaze restaurants and often gone to work behind the counter. With no NBA franchise in Kansas City the chances of him being seen working here is quite unlikely.
Who’s at center?
I saw a list of All-Time Knicks players; Willis Reed was placed at power forward and Patrick Ewing at center. The remaining players I thought were okay, the flip-plop at the center/power forward position concerned me. The 1970 and 1973 Knicks were led to an NBA championship by center Willis Reed. How good was Reed you ask, well he’s in the Naismith and College Basketball Hall of Fame? That accomplish alone should provide evidence of a sterling college and NBA career.

In 1985 Patrick Ewing was made the number one
draft choice by the Knicks. This 11X NBA
All-Star was never able to lead the Knicks to a championship while he played
for them. There was one guy in Chicago
who dominated the NBA during Ewing’s time as a player. So, I realize I’ve not provided enough
evidence for you to place one guy at power forward and the other at center. I just wanted to offer you the dilemma this
writer presented for us. Who should be
the Knicks all-time center?
Bits n Pieces
This is strictly a rumor; it’s been reported by several media sources the Wolves Jimmy Butler is interested in joining the Lakers. Should this move occur I certainly have no issues with it, Butler is a quality player and has demonstrated solid play over the last four seasons. Butler could greatly aid a young Laker team playing alongside the veteran LeBron James.

We held a discussion regarding Lonzo Ball’s
unorthodox shooting style. There is a
belief by a few folks his peculiar style inhibits his shooting. Well I ain’t no shot doctor but I pointed out
the odd shooting style of Kevin Martin who managed a 12-year NBA career. I failed to mention Shawn Marion who spent
his most productive years with the Suns and managed a 16-year career. I guess in the case of Ball to date it might
not matter how odd the shot appears if it scores the basket. First the peculiar shooting style of Martin followed
by that of Marion.
I wouldn’t consider myself a Carmelo Anthony
fan, I certainly believe he’s had an outstanding NBA career. One publication questioned if he’s a lock for
the Hall of Fame. I can state with
conviction he’s bound for the HOF, he’s in an exclusive club having scored over
25,000 points. I’m the guy that claimed
Dennis Rodman was not worthy and he’s there, no question Anthony is on the
way.
Food for thought
Good old Jeff Goodman, thanks for tossing a wrench into the works. I have been one of the proponents arguing high school players should be included in the NBA draft. There is a downside according to Goodman, “It’s not a solve all, the Top 10 players will never see the inside of a college arena. The college game will suffer by an inability to lure the top prospects to a campus near you.” He went on to mention how much Kevin Durant believed he matured that one year at Texas. Unfortunately, Goodman’s points are solid and convincing, for now we have the Top 10 in college if only for 1-year. What the heck did we do back in the good old days of Kobe, McGrady and others?

How about this, the 2019 NBA draft could see
another international player chosen in the Top 5. In 2018 Luka Doncic from Slovenia would
become the third pick in June, few of us are familiar with the name Kesou
Doumbouya (I know I wasn’t). This youngster
is a 6-foot 9-inch 230-pound forward who hails from Guinea a nation in West
Africa. He plays for the French team
Limoges CSP, his draft status could change by next June however I’ve found
NBADraft.net to be doggone accurate.
