Basketball from a fans perspective

Broken ankles
The term has come into common usage over the last few years in the NBA.  A number of players have become quite adept at ‘breaking ankles’ of opposing players.  Although long retired Allen Iverson provides us several examples, the link below is just one of many, enjoy.

Stay in school
This is not set in stone however I’m concerned if the report is accurate.  CBS Sports.com is projecting its 2017 mock draft and there is no argument with the choices until late in the first round, the writer indicates the Lakers will draft 7-6 Tacko Fall with the 27 pick.  I will provide you at least several reasons why this is a dumb idea.  1.  Fall has provided no indication he’s leaving University of Central Florida for the NBA.  2. The Lakers drafted 19-year old Ivica Zubac believing he is one of the keys in continuing to build the Lakers for the future.

3.  Fall is extremely tall and can block a number of shots.  He is extremely raw offensively although he checks in at nearly 300 pounds smaller more skilled player have ‘pushed‘ him around due to his limited basketball play.  Fall’s only played basketball for five years, most kids in America, Canada or Europe would have been playing at least 10 or 12 years at this point.  4.  It would be so beneficial if Coach Dawkins would send him to a Big Man’s camp this summer to aid in development of his footwork.  5.  This is dumb a dumb idea for any writer to project, Fall needs to play two more years at a minimum.

A curious occurrence
The leading candidate for the Naismith College Player of the Year is no place to be found. Kansas basketball fans know where Frank Mason III is but we might be unsure about the NBA. The school always attracts high profile McDonald’s All American types.  The 5-11 point guard is not one of those although this talented player is having a career senior year, despite the display of talent and exhibiting it over four years Mason III has been the glue holding the Jayhawks together.  As for the NBA NBADraft.net and DraftExpress.com fail to list Mason III on their 2017 mock draft.  At this point we are unsure if he is drafted but we know he can play basketball.

MVP
We can debate this years MVP until the cows come home, I just heard an argument for LeBron James this morning.  There are plenty of others who might be under consideration.  How about Steph Curry whose led the way as the Warriors have come close to duplicating last years history breaking won-loss record?  Kevin Durant left OKC for the Golden State and has smoothly blended into the Warriors effort---MVP.  NOTE:  This was written prior to Durant's injury.  We must also give consideration to Mr. Triple-Double Russell Westbrook.

I for one didn’t believe it was possible to duplicate the Oscar Robertson season, even if he doesn’t make it even this critic has got to admit he’s had an MVP season.  How about “I never saw a shot I didn’t like” James Harden?  That’s not intended as a slam at Harden just the fact me and others believed he was all about his shot.  “Captain Obvious” has thrived under D’Antoni’s offense.  How about Isiah Thomas, no not that one this Isaiah Thomas the 5-9 dynamo who plays point for the Celtics.  His NBA numbers for the last two seasons exceed his junior and senior year at Washington.  There are several others we could consider however these are likely the leading candidates.
