Basketball from a fans perspective

Not the only one
Kim Anderson of Mizzou might be the first but we can also add Johnny Jones LSU to the list. The coaches not invited back next season, Jones was a little different in that he had a past winning record at LSU.  Last season with Ben Simmons in the lineup LSU missed the NCAA Tournament. This season has been even worse, tied with Mizzou in last place in the SEC.  There are likely a number of other coaches who might be seeking employment elsewhere once the dust of the NCAA Tournament subsides.

Impress me….please
Many NBA fans fail to understand why I’m not impressed with Russell Westbrook, don’t misunderstand my statement I didn’t say he wasn’t talented.  Tuesday evening he scored 58 points and the Thunder lost the game.  How do you score 58 points and your team still comes up short?  You ask how have the Thunder benefited in this assault on Oscar Robertson’s triple-double record.  This time last year the Thunder record was 43-20 versus the current 35-29.

I hear you Kevin Durant was in the lineup last year and that aided the more successful won-loss record.  Mavs owner Mark Cuban stirred up controversy in a recent discussion when he failed to include Westbrook in his MVP count.  A fan could see Durant-Westbrook battled for shots I believe besides the financial gain Westbrook might be the secondary reason Durant is playing for the Warriors.  Just my thoughts doesn‘t make it correct.  A Thunder fan responded using a John Wooden quote to describe the Westbrook game; “Never mistake activity for achievement.”

Whose side
The soap opera that recently opened only involves us fans and the media.  It’s my belief (without offering proof) Laker players probably could care less.  Another question whose sides do I take on the real “Family Feud?”  I’m on Jeannie’s side however there is a belief on my part she is not the solve all to ownership.  The Buss family has owned the Lakers for so long a period many believe they might be the only owners---not true.  The late Bob Short purchased the Minneapolis Lakers in 1957 and was responsible for moving the team to Los Angeles in 1960.

In September 1965 Jack Kent Cooke purchased the Lakers for $5 million dollars, Cooke was responsible for owning his own sports arena.  Unhappy with the lease arrangements at the city owned Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena he built his own building The Forum.  The later arena became the Great Western Forum, the team played at the Sports Arena from 1960 to 1967.  In 1979 Dr. Jerry Buss would purchase the Lakers from Cooke in 1979.  So there you have it two other owners in Los Angeles not named Buss.  Should Jeannie or any member of the family chose to sell the team at a future date that would be okay too.  Under Cooke and later Dr. Buss the franchise excelled until recently under Jim Buss.

This is funny
“What happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object? “  That’s the case with the clash of Charles Barkley and LaVar Ball in the media.  You know of Barkley TNT commentator, whatever comes up often comes out of his mouth.  We could make that same statement regarding LaVar Ball father of UCLA point guard Lonzo.  He created controversy with his statements indicating “He wanted the Lakers to draft his son” and “Lonzo is better than Step Curry”.  I’m not going to detail the back and forth between Barkley and Ball you can read it on multiple sports websites.
