We have witnessed a unique broadcasting change recently. Mike Breen, Kevin Calabro and Kevin Harlin have been silenced, nothing drastic has occurred to them and other broadcasters. They have been given time off in their role as play by play announcers. A number of former NBA players have stepped forward and served in the role of play by play and analysts on ESPN, Turner and NBA TV telecasts. This is different, although I haven’t seen every broadcast its interesting change. Particularly good in this role are Greg Anthony, Kevin McHale and Chris Webber.
Did you see this?
The NBA Developmental League founded in 2001-02 is changing names. The minor league founded by the NBA was intended to funnel high school players into the parent league. A number of players have spent time in the D-League which has led them to NBA careers. The larger problem from my viewpoint the league never accomplished its intention.
High profile prep players continue to head off to college for one year and then head for the NBA. The league next season will be known as the NBA Gatorade League---horrible change. As for me I will continue to refer to it by the name first provided the NBA Developmental or
D-League. We must refer to the Sprint Center or Staples or Golden West 1 because that’s the name on the front of the building. In this instance there is no requirement on my part to use the corporate name.
Rob this is for you
My friend asks the question so I’m going to piggy-back on some responses and add some omitted. Rob asked; “Have three blood brothers played in the NBA?” Answers came flowing in from all directions. This list is nowhere close to complete and with omissions the list is still overwhelming.
Jon, Brent & Drew Barry
Miles, Mason & Marshall Plumlee
Kareem & Brandon Rush
Caldwell, Major, Will & Charles Jones
Cody & Tyler Zeller
Pau & Marc Gasol
Dominique & Gerald Wilkins.
Horace & Harvey Grant
Steph & Seth Curry
Bernard & Albert King
Brook & Robin Lopez
Marcus & Markieff Morris
Jason & Jaron Collins
Humor lacking
I’ve been guilty too; often humor does not come across on the printed page. Sometimes we are unsure if it’s actual humor or someone just trolling. I’m reading responses to the coaching search at Mizzou from readers. This is one of the letters. “Mizzou didn’t win enough games. So they need to hire a coach who is all about winning but not much in the way of morals………Kelvin Sampson.” I have to believe this is a huge failure at humor or a barb at Mizzou or both. What do you think?
