Basketball from a fans perspective
Florida was in the Top 25 early in the
college season, I wasn’t going to fool myself into believing this game was
going to be easy despite the fact it was at home. The road win against South Carolina was a
distant memory on Saturday for me, the Tigers needed their game face on for
today. The Gators won with seconds
remaining scoring the winning basket on a lay-up for a 77-75 win, the
officiating didn’t cause the Tigers to toss a lazy inbound pass that
could be easily intercepted. Officiating
didn’t cause the loss, but it certainly impacted the game, phantom call after
phantom call as this game might qualify for the worst officiated I've ever witnessed.
The
“invisible” team
I had to search once again, the Kansas
City Tornadoes were losers in their second game 117-116 so they begin the season
0-2. The first game attracted a little
under 1,000 fans in Municipal Auditorium however the numbers are not critical
according to league owner David Magley.
Magley claims teams need only draw 1,500 fans to maintain continuity, ticket
prices for games range from $8 to $25. Ever how it is done the Tornadoes must improve its visibility in the metro.
Is he serious
Jerry Richardson owner of the NFL
Carolina Panthers placed his team on the market late in 2017. Entertainer and business mogul Sean “P.
Diddy” Combs indicated a desire to purchase the team, later Steph Curry of the Warriors
announced he was interested in teaming with Combs to purchase the team. My initial thought, “Is Curry really
serious?” It turns out that might indeed
be the case for Curry. The NBA has a few
black and minority associates although Michael Jordan remains the only majority
owner, to my knowledge the NFL has no minority owners.
Bits
and Pieces
I’ve got to quit
listening to Charles Barkley, once again he made a statement I agree with. The change over to Nike we’ve seen several
the teams with hoodie warm ups on the bench.
Barkley said; “I don’t like them hoodies they are supposed to be outdoor
wear.” I am in 100% agreement with Charles on this one.
Jason Williams
arrived in the NBA from Florida with the nickname “White Chocolate.” Williams spent most of his top years in the
NBA as a member of the Kings, his ball-handling skills were quite distinctive. On a break you better be prepared for the
pass otherwise it might hit you in the back of the head. Slam.com introduces us to “The Next White
Chocolate” Jordan McCabe from Kaukauna High School in Wisconsin, keep an eye
out for this 5-10-point guard.
I’m convinced if Bill
Self remains coach the Mizzou-Kansas rivalry will NEVER return. This stuff about “Everything to lose and
nothing to be gained” by scheduling Mizzou is no longer relevant. He refuses to play Wichita State less than
162 miles from Lawrence but light years away in the mind of Self. Mizzou, shucks he want even play Wichita
State.
Did you hear this,
the Lithuanian coach claims the Ball brothers will receive plenty of playing
time? Sounds good from my standpoint
however fair warning, ever the strength this is professional basketball. Don’t expect either of the brothers to set
the league on fire, we shall see.
