Basketball from a fans perspective

“I’m back”
No, it’s not Michael Jordan this time however he is a Michael, his last name is Porter Jr.  He arrived on campus with so much hype last summer, NBA lottery pick before he’d played his first game for Mizzou.  MPJr played a total of 2 minutes then a back injury suffered during the summer forced Porter to the sidelines, a resulting surgery had him inactive until the announcement on Thursday.  His doctors have given him clearance to begin play again.  It’s not been clarified as this is published if Porter will see action on Saturday when Mizzou faces Kentucky.

The Land down under
Dante Exum arrived in the NBA from Australia ahead of Ben Simmons, most interesting both athletes had similar paths to the NBA.  The fathers of Dante Exum and Ben Simmons played college ball in the U.S. but journeyed to Australia to play professionally.  Cecil Exum played at the University of North Carolina while Dave Simmons was at Oklahoma City University.  Dante Exum and Ben Simmons hold dual citizenship since both were born in Melbourne Australia.

Dante’s mother and father are both American citizens while Ben has an American father and an Australian mother.  Dante and Ben arrived in the NBA with lofty expectations however to date only Simmons has played at a high skill level.  Drafted in 2014 in the first round by the Jazz injuries have held the 6-foot 6-inch Exum to limited play.  Simmons is on his way to winning NBA Rookie of the Year honors while Exum continues to struggle impacted by injury.

Bits n Pieces
This is a smooth move, Larry Nance Jr. traded to the Cavs made a change, he’s switching jersey numbers from the 24 he wore with the Lakers to number 22.  The significance of the conversion, his dad Larry Nance Sr. wore number 22 while a   member of the Cavs.

Trent Williams might not be headed to Mizzou but just in case I located video of the 6-foot 3-inch Williams in action.  The Gillette Community College point guard was quite impressive, a true point guard looking to distribute the ball rather than taking the shot.  His numbers speak volumes, 7.9 assists, 6.4 rebounds and 14 points a game while shooting 57% from the floor.  Calm down Larry Laker we don’t know if he can play at the Division I level.

I'm probably wrong but I think the Warriors have reached a point they are ready for the playoffs.  The NBA season is an 82-game grind, it is playing in Houston one night and San Antonio the next.  I believe the Warriors become bored with the regular season, just my thought but certainly worth considering.

Strange and unusual journey of Kawhi
We’ve hardly heard the name Kawhi Leonard mentioned this season, Leonard has played a grand total of 9 games in the 2017-18 season.  Now comes word on   February 21 he might be done for the season.  This is the strange issue; his groin injury is reported to have been sufficiently healed according to reports, he’s been medically cleared to play.  Leonard has elected against returning to the active roster.

This from Coach Popovich he “would be 'surprised' if Kawhi returns this season”.  Is there something going on we are unable to see as fans?  Just from what I know about Leonard he doesn’t appear to be a problem type of player, but his situation is clearly a mystery.  I am uncomfortable trying to figure out this matter, I have a San Antonio connection.  I'm going to reach out and see if they can shine additional light on the subject.
