BASKETBALL FROM A FANS PERSPECTIVE
It wasn’t intentional
My error, I overlooked Celtic great Bill Russell the other day.  The discussion on Brady Super Bowl rings and Kareem Abdul Jabbar I didn’t even focus on Russell.  How about this, 11 NBA championship rings, 5 NBA MVP’s and 2X NCAA champion.  My excuse a photo of Kareem was displayed on a social media sight with his championship accomplishments.  The accolades mentioned are just a small portion of Russell’s bio, I know what you are thinking and haven’t said.  “It was a different NBA back in the olden days, less teams and certainly less competition.”  Okay if you say, no argument from me its true.
They are worth WHAT?
Forbes published its annual ranking of NBA franchises.  There is no change at the top, we have the same winner that’s been in place for the last four years. Forbes values the Knicks at $4 billion, the Lakers are in second at $3.7 billion. Interesting to most observers the Knicks have the worst won-loss record in the NBA, they are New York City, Madison Square Garden and other trappings representing The Big Apple.
My basketball evening
Began with the Raptors-Sixer game at 7:00 p.m. Central, at 8:00 Mizzou-Tennessee and Kansas State-Kansas came on.  I turned off the NBA and all evening kept switching back and forth between the two college games.  Naturally there was apprehension on my part with Mizzou facing the number one team in the nation.
As indicated, I didn’t see the entire game, what I was able to witness Tennessee proved why they are rated the top team in the nation, final score Tennessee 72 Mizzou 60.  In Manhattan Kansas the K-State Wildcats fought off the number 13 Kansas Jayhawks, the Wildcats managed to beat the Jayhawks 74-67.  This was the first win by the in-state rival in the last 8 meetings.  As for the NBA game the Raptors beat the Sixers 119-107.  Four of the five Raptor starters scored in double-figures, as for the Sixers Joel Embiid had 37 points 13 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in a losing cause.
Blockbuster trades
Once upon a time large scale trades occurred in all major sport, the NFL major league baseball and the NBA.  That is no longer the case, present day blockbuster trades only occur in the NBA.  The Clippers and Sixers completed a trade Tuesday evening involving 6 players and draft choices.
Sixers acquired:
Tobias Harris-F
Boban Marjanovic-C
Mike Scott-F
Clippers received:
Wilson Chandler-F
Mike Muscala-F
Landry Shamet-G
2020 1st round draft choice
2021 1st and 2nd round draft choice
2023 2nd round draft choice
As usual it’s difficult early to access a trade, with a 21-year old Shamet who knows if he’s able to become a star.  The Sixers appear to have aided themselves for the immediate future, but their bench appears weakened.
This is different
Kinston North Carolina is located about 250 road miles east of Charlotte.  The city has a population of 21,677 citizens and it holds a unique distinction.  Kansas City less the metro is 448,943 souls with Landry Shamet the only active NBA player.  Kinston has two NBA players who were born in this small city, even more interesting both play for the same team.  The Lakers have Brandon Ingram and Reggie Bullock recently acquired in a trade both from Kinston.
