BASKETBALL FROM A FANS PERSPECTIVE
Room at the Top…. Hardly
The downturn in Kansas basketball thus far has created a crowd at the top of the Big 12 Conference race.  Check it out below:
                    W       L
Kansas State  8       2
Texas Tech     7       4
Iowa State     7       4
Kansas          7       4
Baylor           6       5
Texas            6       5
With 9 conference games remaining to be played and facing re-matches we can speculate this race might go down to the last game of the season.
I didn’t see the game
Travel prevented me an opportunity to view the game.  This report is a box-score reading only, those having an opportunity to see the game might formulate an opinion beyond the shellacking suffered by the visitors.  The Sixers led by Joel Embiid did a number on my Lakers Sunday.  Embiid led the way scoring 37 points and snatching 14 rebounds along with 3 assists.  This along with a balanced Sixer account led to a 143-120 victory over my Lakers.
Remember his name
Thursday evening, I had an opportunity to check out potential NBA talent in the name of Charles Bassey.  He’s 6 foot 11-inches tall and is manning the center position for Western Kentucky.  In this match WK was facing Rice University, Bassey was in foul-trouble for much of the game so I’m unsure if this was close to his best effort.

When not hampered by foul trouble Bassey is a double-double man with season numbers of 14.7 points and 10.1 rebounds a game.  In the Thursday win over Rice a double overtime win (92-85) Bassey scored 10 points along with 14 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.  As for his bio, it’s reported at age 14 Bassey moved to the U.S. from Lagos Nigeria attending St. Anthony in San Antonio and completing high school at Aspire Academy in Louisville.
Singing his praises
The Philly media is singing the praises of Landry Shamet.  The 6-foot 5-inch point guard has distinguished himself mightily in a reserve role with the Sixers.  Drafted 26 in 2018 few knew him, Wichita State does not have a national footprint like Kansas, North Carolina, Duke and others.  Even more interesting he flew beneath the radar in his Kansas City MO hometown. One of the reasons you might not hear or read a great deal about Markelle Fultz is Shamet.  He’s been instant offense off the bench, as this is written he’s shooting a sizzling .406 from the 3-point line.
Shamet just might be one of those late bloomers, but his game really progresses while at Wichita State.  Not only can he shoot but his height aids him playing the point as well.  January 8, Shamet came off the bench and scored a season high 29 points for the Sixers.  The Sixer backcourt at the point is crowded with Ben Simmons, T.J. McConnell, Markelle Fultz and Shamet.  It’s likely Shamet fails to dislodge Simmons however he could move in front of the other two.  In Philly they are singing the praises of Landry Shamet and for good reason.  NOTE:  Prior to publication of this account Shamet was traded to the Clippers, this certainly had nothing to do with his play the Clippers wanted him included in the package.
