BASKETBALL FROM A FANS PERSPECTIVE

This is unique
In the old Big 8 days and more recently in Big 12 play Kansas and Mizzou clashed on the basketball court but rarely in recruiting talent.  Kansas always appeared to have an edge, the school’s national reputation allowed Kansas to attract high profile prospects Mizzou couldn’t entice.  Over the years a few kids crossed the state line, Missouri prospects attending Kansas and Kansas prospects choosing Missouri.
In the 2019-20 season a unique condition will occur in Mizzou and Kansas basketball; an older brother is enrolled at Mizzou and the younger brother is headed to Kansas next season.  Parker Braun is a 6-foot 8-inch forward and a freshman reserve this season at Mizzou.  Next season younger brother Christian Braun a 6-foot 6-inch forward is headed to Kansas to play for coach Bill Self.  The brothers are from Overland Park Kansas, a city separated from Kansas City Missouri by a street, State Line Road.
Steve Ballmer Arena
The headline is not intended to be serious, it’s simply pointing out Steve Ballmer is a determined owner.  The Clippers owner need’s his own arena and it’s not in Seattle where he made his fortune as a Microsoft executive.  Ballmer’s arena will eventually be constructed in Inglewood a short distance from the Rams Stadium schedule to open in 2020.
Although reports surrounding the arena have involved lawsuits the latest news is a positive, the Clippers are searching for a contractor which indicates progress.  The five or so lawsuits pending probably must be resolved before construction begins, that’s probably not a big deal.  The Clippers are tied to a 2024 expiring lease at Staples.  Clipper fans should be pleased in one regard, in 2014 when Ballmer purchased the team, he could have easily picked up his marbles and headed north to Seattle.
“The Times They Are A Changin’”
The headline above could be written about the 1964 classic by Bob Dylan, it could also represent what the 21st Century NBA has become.  We are accustomed to players holding team’s hostage, I don’t believe we’ve ever had a parent at least to my memory.  Anthony Davis finally spoke, he was respectful, just indicated he believed it was time to move on.  As for his father it was a totally different matter.  This is the text Anthony Davis Sr. sent to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN

“I would never want my son to play for Boston after what they done to Isaiah Thomas…NO LOYALTY…guy gives his heart and soul and they traded him…anyone can print that.”  Okay Senior tell us what you really think of Danny Ainge and the Celtics organization?  I tell you, I don’t ever remember a parent in the middle of a possible player move, do you?  Meanwhile in the Garden we hear chants of “We want Kyrie” despite the fact he’s leading the Celtics to victory over your Knicks.
Coaching tree
The Spurs Gregg Popovich is making noises like this might be his last season.  I thought it might be appropriate to see how this long-time coach has impacted the NBA besides wins and losses.  I’m not savvy enough to provide you a design of the lines but just provide names.  By no means should this list be considered complete, Quin Snyder, Earl Watson and Dell Demps for example were omitted.  They worked for or played for teams close to the Spurs organization however the connection to Pop was unclear.  This provides you an idea of his stamp on the NBA.
