BASKETBALL FROM A FANS PERSPECTIVE
The dinosaur NCAA finally moved
On Thursday we covered Silvio De Sousa’s NCAA problem and his suspension at Kansas.  The snail-paced organization from this point referred to as the NCAA finally made an announcement on his status.  They ruled De Sousa ineligible this season and the following season.  De Sousa is 20 years old and will turn 21 next October, do you see any reason he would remain at Kansas.  Chances are good he either declares for the NBA draft or heads to Europe to play.  Just to refresh your memory De Sousa’s guardian was reported to have received $20,000 and another $2,500 for books to attend online classes in order to gain eligibility at Kansas.  Bill Self and De Sousa both testified in the Adidas trial claiming no knowledge of payment.
Patience Gotham, help is on the way
Knick fans unlike the Sixers have no words like “Trust the process" or anything similar.  Be patient through the end of this season there is promise for the future.  Although it’s my belief the Mavs might have the advantage at this stage that might not be the case into the future.  Continue reading and you will note a 5-point plan that should ensure the Knicks success and allow director/actors Spike Lee and Michael Rapaport to smile.  1.  The Porzingis trade freed plenty of cap space which allows the Knicks to target Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard or Klay Thompson all free-agents July 1.  Can the Knicks sign any of them, time will only tell?  2.  The Knicks could finish first in the Zion Williamson lottery.
If they miss the cut (which they could) there is always R.J. Barrett Duke, Cam Reddish Duke, Ru Hachimura Gonzaga or Keldon Johnson Kentucky to contemplate.  Can we be sure any of these athletes can play at the NBA level?  We have no answer at this point however it is believed they can play.  3.  David Fizdale is a quality coach given time to place “his” team on the floor.  4.  Despite the perception of appearing inept in the past this “new” Knicks front office is primed to win and win right now.  5.  Knick fans are weary of losing but must be patient at least one more season.  All this is pure speculation at this point, I’d like to point out my secondary name again it’s Captain Speculation.

If you are a certain age
I’m unsure who said it or when, “The NBA season is half-way over.”  Sure, enough that is the case and this is written on Friday before the Super Bowl on Sunday.  The NFL season runs clear into February now and once upon a time the NFL season was over before the calendar turned over to the next year.  College bowl games were all played after the new year, but NFL football was rare.  College basketball began December 1 (now it’s an early November start) and concluded in late March now it’s the first Monday in April.  As for the NBA it was an October start and the NBA champion generally crowned at the very latest in early May.
The baseball season including spring training ran from February and concluded with a late September or early October World Series.  We’ve had World Series games in early November, one year a game was played with light snow coming down.  As you can see once upon a time there was a clear start-stop date in all our professional sports.  We can look at the increased number of teams in the major sports resulting in more games.  College football generally has not increased numbers of teams in the same manner as college basketball.  Several college basketball teams have moved from NAIA and Division II into Division I.
He’s still the man
Joel Embiid shot a poor .333 from the floor committing 8 turnovers, that’s the bad news.  The good was 26 points 20 rebounds and 5 assists leading to a 113-104 victory over the Warriors.  Even more interesting, the Sixers win occurred in Oakland bringing the Warriors 11-game win streak to a screeching halt.  Keep this in perspective the victory reflects but a single game, Ben Simmons (26 points 6 assists and 8 rebounds) along with Kansas Cities Landry Shamet off the bench proved too much for the Warriors.  Small ball is good, if you’ve got a talented big man like Embiid pound the ball inside.  A layup and dunk still count, they are just one point less than a 3-point basket.
