BASKETBALL FROM A FANS PERSPECTIVE

CLARIFICATION
Allow a further explanation regarding a story published in the Thursday edition of Words eye view.  The University of Kansas suspended Silvio De Sousa and not the NCAA.  The action by KU was likely done in the belief there might be future NCAA penalties levied on the school. Based on the recent penalty placed on Mizzou football, baseball and softball we are curious to determine how the De Sousa case is concluded.
The Unicorn on the move
In a surprise move the Knicks traded All-Star Kristaps Porzingis to the Mavs.  Headed to Dallas along with Porzingis is Tim Hardaway Jr., Courtney Lee and Trey Burke along with a possible draft choice.  Headed to play for the Knicks, Wesley Matthews, Dennis Smith Jr. and DeAndre Jordan.  The Knicks will also receive 2 future 1st round future draft choices in the trade.  Although injured and sidelined Porzingis has been feuding with Knicks management dating back to the Phil Jackson days.  If healthy it would appear the Mavs are the winner in this surprise trade.  It’s a win adding the talented Porzingis to a Mavs lineup despite the fact he might not be available to play until the 2019-20 season.
It’s me, I know it
A numbers guy looks as them as they relate to an NBA athlete.  Daily ESPN, Fox Sports, TNT and other voices sing his praises.  A closer examination indicates he’s shooting .416 from the floor which is below average for most NBA players.  How about 3-point shooting, it’s .250 and free-throw percentage is .650.  If his numbers are average and, in some instances, below average why the love affair with this player?
I will save you a guess, the numbers belong to Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook.  The Thunder are playoff bound this season however there are others who I believe have better served the Thunder over Westbrook.  I will provide the names, they are Paul George, Steven Adams and Dennis Schroder and others.  Westbrook has certainly aided the cause however he’s not the single reason the Thunder win not with the numbers Russell is producing.
Captain Speculation speaks
There are reports circulating the Pelicans will not trade Anthony Davis to the Lakers, let’s explore this possibility.  Davis remains with the team and becomes a free-agent, he will be traded to the Celtics/Knicks or some other team.  This would be done to avoid the Pelicans losing Davis to free-agency, Davis will not sign an extension and in 2020 will “walk” away from the team for the Lakers.  This story could play out in that manner however it’s unlikely to occur in that manner.  As you are aware there is no inside information here however it’s my belief Davis becomes a Laker sooner rather than later.  IF the report is correct (Davis wants the Lakers) why do the Celtics/Knicks or anyone trade for him?  We must wait for the outcome which essentially is unknown.
