BASKETBALL FROM A FANS PERSPECTIVE
Trevor Ariza
The Lakers are trying to swing a trade to acquire veteran forward Trevor Ariza.  Currently a member of the Suns Ariza was one of the keys to Rockets success over the last several seasons.  This can only be reported as a possible trade since its strictly rumor.  The Lakers would part ways with guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.  Ariza on the downhill side of his career certainly could add defensive prowess of the Lakers should this trade be culminated.
He should also be included in the race
We needn’t stencil Luka Doncic’s name on the Rookie of the Year Trophy yet.  In addition to those already profiled there is one more rookie to add to the list.  Jaren Jackson Jr. of the Grizzlies has come to the forefront recently.  The 6-foot 11-inch rookie is third on the team in scoring (13.3) and the last 10 games he’s averaged 14.2 points per game.  Jackson’s numbers might not appear eye-popping however let’s keep an eye on him.
This is different
Number 25 for Mizzou is yet to appear in a game, Brooks Ford is a freshman guard and he’s connected to the school in an unusual manner.  His dad is Travis Ford head man at St. Louis University, once upon a time dad was also a point guard at Mizzou although he finished his collegiate career at Kentucky.  The fact that Brooks chose Mizzou over St. Louis is certainly different, we’ve got to believe his dad could have easily secured a scholarship for him.  Perhaps Brooks might have wanted the break who knows.
Sometimes it’s easier said than done
Sometimes the desires of our heart are not that easy to accomplish.  I believe it was early in 2017 Clippers owner Steve Ballmer announced he wanted his own arena.  Ballmer indicated he was tired of playing second to the Lakers, Kings and entertainment in Staples Center.  Ballmer’s arena would not be built in Seattle rather it was Los Angeles.  I imagine if a site other than the planned location the project would be speeding along but its not.  Clippers arena is planned for a 4-block area near the Rams/Chargers football stadium.
Football is not the issue; the proposed arena would be in Inglewood near the Forum former home of the Lakers.  MSG now owns the Forum and has filed a lawsuit attempting to block the proposal.  Lawsuits, a mayoralty election and various other issues have become part of this project.  Looking from afar I thought at one-point Chase Center in San Francisco would never be constructed either.  That project had several legal issues which delayed construction.  Chase Center will open in the Fall of 2019 however the opening was continuously moved due to the legal challenges.  Again, as an outside observer I can conclude, Clippers arena is tied up in far more legal challenges than Chase Center.
Unicorn
Somebody needs to clue me in on the unicorn, sure I know the book definition.  “A mythical, usually white animal generally depicted with the body and head of a horse with long flowing mane and tail and a single often spiraled horn in the middle of the forehead.”  That’s the chief definition listed by Merriam-Webster.com and has nothing to do with basketball……maybe.  I first heard the term applied regarding the Knicks Kristaps Porzingis and it confused me then as it does now.  Recently number one prospect in the Class of 2019 James Wiseman announced his college choice in a press conference.
How did he announce his intention to enroll at Memphis?  Sitting at a table he reached down on the floor and produced a toy unicorn with the colors of the school and a large M in the middle.  The ESPN reporter ask him why the unicorn, but it was clear the noise in the auditorium drowned out the question and Wiseman did not respond.  So here I am stuck, I’m still unable to figure out this unicorn thing.  NOTE:  After completing the story I located a definition which answers the question.  A unicorn is a player that has the athletic shape to play power forward or center, but also has the technical skills resembling guard play.”  I feel so much better now with the question answered.
