BASKETBALL FROM A FANS PERSPECTIVE
Despite injuries and internal turmoil
There’s drama surrounding the Warriors, despite that fact have you checked the standings lately?  I just did prior to beginning this account, they are in first place in the Western Conference.  Their chief competition the Rockets last season are 11-14 and as they said, if the season ended today, they miss the playoffs.  That’s not likely to occur the Rockets will improve however the question might be “Are they as good as last season’s team?”
Injuries as they say are part of the game, the drama is a different matter.  The NBA season is a marathon and not a sprint perhaps the Warriors become bored with travel from Dallas to New York to Charlotte and the regular season.  Maybe the Warriors are just waiting for the playoffs to begin.  Help will soon arrive in the form of Boogie Cousins; the mercurial big man will soon start play with the Warriors G-League team.  The Warriors might not be playoff ready currently they will be in April mark my words.
Did you read?
Jimmy Butler is downplaying the drama surrounding Joel Embiid.  Butler had essentially the same take as mine, Embiid wants to win and right now.  His shooting has gone downhill since Butler’s arrival and my initial expectation was Simmons would be the Sixer to suffer.  I’m old school, the Steph Curry’s and other small ball advocates are good.  If you have a talent like Embiid the offense should be inside-out.  We shall see going forward if there are adjustments to placate all the parties.
It’s all Doncic’s fault
As this is written the Mavs Luka Doncic is leading all 2018 rookies in scoring (18.5 ppg).  It’s likely if he continues at this rate, he’ll be name Rookie of the Year in 2019.  There was a great deal of argument last season on ROY, you remember, don’t you?  There were a cluster of folks who campaigned for Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell.  Their argument Ben Simmons was drafted in 2016 while Mitchell was a 2017 draft pick.
The issue an injury causes the Sixer point guard to miss the 2016-17 season.  As for Doncic he’s been playing at a professional level since his 14th birthday, should he be considered a “rookie.”  This is not a Doncic issue alone most Euro players begin professional careers while teens.  American players must continue with a “play” year in college prior to declaring themselves eligible for NBA play.
Maybe I’m too sensitive
I’ve yelled, screamed and cried about sports reporting today.  The other evening was an example of what I see wrong in sports reporting.  Local guy providing the highlights of the Mizzou game.  “Jeremiah Tilmon had a double-double but as usual he fouled out.”  Those of us who follow Mizzou basketball know despite apparent talent Tilmon is foul prone.  A person unfamiliar with Mizzou assumes Tilmon is a liability and that is not the clear picture of his value to the team.
Two issues here, 1.  Report the score and leave the negative comment out.  2.  Perhaps I’m the culprit, maybe I’m too sensitive anytime Mizzou, Laker or some other team is report appears negative in my view.  3. “The Genie is back in the bottle”, we cannot return to the media of the 1950’s or censor reporting.  I’m sure over the course of time I’ve offended several folks that’s not my intent.  There is a difference my audience is much smaller than television guy.
