Basketball from a fan’s perspective

Wow
Tuesday night it was the NBA lottery, Wednesday it was the NBA Draft Combine both events were held in Chicago.  Tacko Fall University of Central Florida and 10 others were late invitees to the combine, in addition to player drills height, weight and other measurements are taken of each prospect.  Fall’s numbers are quite startling compared to several past athletes. As an example, Fall stands 7 feet 5 ¼ inches without shoes, 7 foot 7 inches with shoes on.  289 pounds, 8 foot 2 ¼ inch wingspan, 10 foot 2 ½ inch standing reach, and 6.8% body fat.
Although I was familiar with body fat, I had to conduct research to uncover exactly how it’s measured.  I have no intention of teaching what several of you probably know already.  We can state the average male athlete should be somewhere between 6-13% body fat.  Although Fall was invited to the combine his chances of being drafted are still uncertain.  Its possible an NBA team might be willing to latch on to him strictly as a specialist.  His ability as a shot blocker or intimidator might be attractive to a team with plenty of depth.
“I’m tired”
There are conversations related to the NBA that upset me, I'm tired of hearing them.  The chief one, “Nobody plays defense in the NBA” or “You only need to watch the 4th quarter of the game.”  Those one most irritating to me is “Tanking.”  No matter what the NBA does to correct talk of losing games on purpose it continues.  I rarely watch ESPN’s Golic and Wingo and there is a reason.  The program conversation usually appears to be NFL or football related.
Wednesday morning after the lottery the portion of conversation they discussed, you guessed it…. tanking!  In a related story several Knick fans are crying the blues this morning.  It’s their belief with the terrible season(s) experienced in recent years they should have received the top pick.  That’s not how this thing works people, I sympathize with you but consider this.  You are adding KD and Kyrie as a consolation prize to your roster.
What was he thinking?
As a blue-chip hotshot your services are sought by several basketball programs.  You choose the school with the national reputation but find limited time on the court.  Eventually you make the decision transferring to a mid-major school where you earn starter minutes.  Can’t occur you say, yes it can and some of you might be aware of the athlete and the program I’m referencing.  I’m reading about the potential landing spots transfers might be taking into consideration.  Let’s face it, everyone wants to play we’d have serious doubts if an athlete chose a school to become a reserve player.  Doesn’t matter, it could be first choice or transfer there are likely three consid

Don’t hate
We guess happiness turned into “Oh No!”  Video surfaced of a gathering of Knick fans; they were celebrating the Lakers getting the 4th pick.  Their joy turned into sadness when it was announced the Knicks received the 3rd pick.  Thought you were going to get an opportunity to draft Zion Williamson, didn’t you?  Don’t hate.
Interesting story
Ryan Kalkbrenner is an emerging talent, don’t concern if you are unfamiliar with his name you will soon.  Kalkbrenner stands 7 feet tall and checks in at 225 pounds, He will be entering his senior year at Trinity Catholic High School in St. Louis in August.

The story on his development is interesting, the Trinity coach met Kalkbrenner at a basketball camp when the youngster was 12 years old. He was 6 feet tall as a 12-year old, the coach claims, “His father stood 6-9 and his mother was 6-4 I knew where he was headed.”  It appears he’s been discovered, offers have begun pouring in for this Class of 2020 prospect, 247 Sports awards him 3 stars.  Naturally he’s on Mizzou’s “wish list” so the next year should prove interesting.
