Basketball from a fan’s perspective

Social Security
Vince Carter will return for the 2019-20 season; in addition, he will apply for social security immediately after the season begins.  Okay the last sentence is my crude attempt at humor.  Carter will turn 43 years of age before next season is over, he just might be the oldest active player in NBA history.  My research indicates he’s oldest current active player, as for the past we must research the question.
Today it’s a done deal
Yesterday Words eye view contained a story on the Spurs Gregg Popovich.  It was reported at age 70 he still wanted to coach, well today it’s a done deal.  Popovich will sign a 3-year deal to continue coaching the Spurs for the next several years.
Speaking of coaches
Once upon a time Bill Self could claim he's the highest paid basketball coach in the Big 12.  Move mover Bill, you've been replaced not at Kansas but in the salary sector.  The honor of the highest paid coach in the conference now belongs to Chris Beard Texas Tech. According to USA Today Beard becomes the 4th highest paid coach in the nation and none of the guys in front of him are named Bill Self.  Beard’s signed a six-year contract which takes him through the 2024-25 season.  Elite Eight two years ago, playing for the NCAA championship this past season.  Texas Tech wanted to ensure they don’t lose Beard to another program.
A-Train
The A-Train refers to the New York City Subway 8th Avenue Express.  The A-Train is also the nickname of Hall of Fame and former player Artis Gilmore.  Gilmore acquired a national reputation his senior year at Jacksonville University in 1970, that year his team faced mighty UCLA for the NCAA championship.  Although they lost the championship game Gilmore was left with a choice, would it be the upstart ABA or the well-established NBA for him.  The 7-foot 2-inch Gilmore was drafted by the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA.  It was reported the Colonels believing they might lose him to the NBA signed Gilmore to a 10-year contract, the NBA Bulls would select him in the 7th round of its draft.
He had the rare distinction of being selected ABA Rookie of the Year and ABA Most Valuable Player for the 1971-72 season.  Gilmore would be a double-double man his five years in the ABA and then a change.  The ABA merged with the NBA with four teams the Nuggets, Spurs, Nets and Pacers becoming NBA franchises.  Gilmore along with several other players was placed in a pool of ABA players with no team and a draft was held for those players.  Gilmore was chosen by the Bulls in 1976, he played for the Spurs and Bulls concluding his NBA career with the Celtics.  In 2011 Gilmore along with others was enshrined in the Naismith Hall of Fame.  Artis Gilmore another name from the past you should know.
Class of 2019
It’s not that unusual for high school athletes to reclassify in this day, that is the case for Johnny Juzang 5-star prospect.  Juzang is a 6-foot 7-inch 205-pound guard/small forward and was originally in the Class of 2020.  Home is North Hollywood California for Juzang, among the schools with offers on the table are Kansas, Kentucky, UCLA, Villanova and several others.
What I’d like
We don’t receive our desires but here goes anyway:
Joel Embiid, please stop taking 3-point shots
The Lakers sign a coach able to turn the franchise around
Mizzou basketball returning to a winning record
The NBA return to Kansas City
The “Agents of Doom” that impact college basketball role be diminished
Those are just a few of mine, I’m sure there are others.  You have a list?
